I picked up this 4-DVD set and we have been watching our way through the DVDs. They are old classroom films, from the late 1940's to the early 1980's. Sometimes the films are a bit boring, but all of them usually have something entertaining.
The first DVD was "Drivers Ed" and I was quite amused by "The Talking Car" film. A young boy forgets to look both ways and he runs into the street. His father yells at him for almost getting hit by a car. That night, the boy dreams that he is on trial! Three cars judge the young boy (each car gets an animated mouth and eyes over the headlights and front). One of the cars is too generous; he comes across as a pedophile. The really old car is so angry with the kid that I think it wants to convict and sentence the boy to the death penalty. "Step out in front of me, Jimmy. I'm going to run you down so you don't forget the 'see and be seen' rule again."
The "Sex and Drugs" one has the short "LSD Case Study" that came up on the forum a while back. That is awesomely funny. The girl tripping, talking to her hot dog (that begs her not to eat it, because it has a wife and children), biting it anyway, then throwing it down and stomping on it when it will not stop screaming, is a riot. There is also a funny short that teaches young girls about menstruation. The pads shown are huge. The mother holds the box up to show off the logo (the film was funded by a company that manufactured them) and I cracked a joke about "One pad comes in every box!" that had Katie laughing so hard that she was crying.
Yeah, the Educational Archives DVDs are amazing. There are a couple of films that are more disturbing than they are funny though. I think the "More Sex & Drugs" DVD has a film about introducing mentally handicapped people to the concepts of sex and genitalia that left me a little scarred after viewing. The "On the Job" DVD also includes a couple of films that are a bit shocking, including a film about a dog who dies painfully after eating metal shavings from his can of dog food because of incompetence at the factory, and a safety film that had some graphic (for an educational movie anyway) footage of a guy being run over by a bulldozer if I remember right.
Great DVDs and it's cool that they finally started putting out box sets.
I remember watching alot of the anti drug films and filmstrips in school. The one s that showed how your kids would be born looking like an alien octopus if you did LSD scared the crap outta me! As did the driver's ed movies...showing people all mashed up in their cars because they didn't 'stop-look-listen' . Yikes!!!!
Aw man, I'd really like to get my hands on this set quick smart...
Reason being I'm just about to start filming a short zombie survival educational film for laughs this weekend, and could do with some stock footage...
Now I'm going to have to madly search and do some research before the due date...

I had asked about that video and after I found out what film it was I picked it up on amazon. Was an excellent purchase. My favorite disc is the "On The Job"
