The Sweetest Thing is one of the most stupefyingly unfunny "comedies" that I've seen in quite some time.
A friend of mine let me borrow the unrated DVD of this 2002 bomb. The only reason he told me that I should check it out is that it has Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate in it and he knows how much I lust after these 2 actresses (Applegate in particular). Selma Blair also stars as well.
It's been a while that I've watched a comedy and didn't laugh a single time. In fact, if it hadn't been for the beauty of the 3 female leads, I really don't know how someone could make it through this flick.
Every joke fell flat, every comedic set piece setup was botched, the direction was completely uninspired, the script was just a complete mess. By the time you get to the penis song near the beginning (which is only in the unrated DVD from what I've gathered and done to the music of Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" song), you've still got over half of the movie to trudge through. Then there's a clothing montage during the final act in which Diaz and Applegate try on clothes in quick cut succession that almost caused me to have a seizure.
I've seen some terrible comedies over the past few years but at the very least even the worst of them made me laugh a couple times. This wasn't the case with The Sweetest Thing. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
Has anyone else been subjected to this comedic atrocity?

I've seen it, unfortunatly. Even worse, Comedy Central feels the need to show it at least twice a month.
All three actresses have made better movies. Diaz had The Mask, Shrek and Something About Mary. Appelgate has Anchorman and Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead.
But this, well, I skip it.
Awful. Just, wow. I can make a better movie.
My wife is a fan of the film but I'm with you Torgo - it's awful.
What is most strange to me is that when it was released, it was marketed as a romantic comedy but in actuality it's a "gross-out" comedy that just doesn't work at all.
Fortunately I've only seen a couple of scenes from this, unfortunately one of the scenes was the blow job one, who the hell thinks stuff like this is funny.
It always amazes me that Christina Applegate hasn't managed that much of a film career since Married with Children.
She's still most definitely got the looks (http://entertainment.bodogbeat.com/wp-content/uploads/christina%20applegate.jpg)
, she's got great comedic timing as evidenced in her turns in some comedies like Anchorman and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, she can act (per her Tony nominated Broadway role recently over the past few years ). I guess she's just spent most of her life being type cast as "that hot chick from Married with Children" and people just don't take her seriously.
I've always said that she could've had as huge of a career as Diaz's if she had maybe made much better script choices and/or had a better agent.
Christina had her own sitcom for a bit, that show Jesse. It was okay, did like 2 years. But she was great in Anchorman, though I'm biased cause I think that movie's a comedy classic. That whole cast went well together.
But yeah, The Sweetest Thing is just, eh. I avoid it as much as possible.
I've never seen this movie. After reading everything in this topic, I think I'm better off if things stay that way.
