I was worried this was going to be a sort of geeky "kick ass chick" sort of bohemian quasi feminist thing where some woman carries a gun and I'm supposed to be spellbound by that. Boy did I ever have my head up my ass. This is definately one of the best movies I've seen lately. It's about a "wronged" (to put it mildly) woman who decides to fight back "Falling Down" style against , well, men basically. The Directing by Abell Ferrar is FANTASTIC. Bruce Lee once made a statement to the effect that a movie should MOVE. This is a prime example of a movie that does just that. and he knows when to lay the "grit" on. Add to that an amazing finale, superb minimalist sountrack, and the catharsis that can only come from indiscriminate unapologetic revenge and you got yourself a classic.
Shaw Brothers has a movie like this called "the sexy killer", where a similarly victimized woman battles back by mastering a style of martial arts that consists mainly of kicking a man in his groin til he dies. it's directed by Ho Meng Hua and is also great.
Abell Ferrar, while a strikingly inconsisten director IMO, can sometimes make great films.
Ms. 45, Driller Killer and Bad Lieutenant are all great films though they've got just as many detractors as they do admireres it seems (especially the case with the NC-17 rated Bad Lieutenant).
Ms. 45 holds a place of honor in my DVD collection. This is definitely one of the better "revenge" movies.
Agreed. I went on a splurge of 'Rape and revenge' movies a while back, including things like I spit on your grave and such, and this is one which didn't make me squirm but sill had me thinking 'ouch this is bad'
Definitely a movie you would study in a class of some sort.
I reviewed this one and found it awesomely done. Never does it border on exploitation and it is loaded with great symbolism.
the incidental music reminded me of "pyscho" it was this beeping monotone synthesizer that was somehow frightening
