I use CloneDVD and AnyDVD to make "backups".

Both can be found at: www.slysoft.com (http://www.slysoft.com)

They are free for 30 days and then you have to purchase them to continue to use the programs.  Both are extremely straightforward and easy to use.

I use a program called ConvertXtoDVD made by VSO.  It is an easy program to use, takes me about a 1 or so to burn a DVD.  It is not as fancy as Nero software is but it does it's job.

DVD Shrink and AnyDVD here.

I was using that same combination but DVD Shrink started giving me trouble.  It would say the DVD was unreadable and then I wouldn't be able to read the disc with any program until the computer had been restarted.  I haven't had any trouble like that with Clone DVD.
