I'm currently writing a short story. I'm getting pretty close to done, and I plan to publish this one in particular online. I know I can Google the s**t out of sites, but they're all going to make themselves sound good. What I'm wonder is if anyone knows a good one to go with.
Well, it does depend on what kind of short story you're doing. If it's fairly reader-friendly, you could try Orson Scott Card's InterGalactic Medicine Show (http://www.intergalacticmedicineshow.com/cgi-bin/mag.cgi?do=content&article=home).
As with other sites, though, it's very competitive. So far, I haven't been able to get any of my short stories published there.
You could try The Next Big Writer ( www.thenextbigwriter.com ) I have a friend who puts short stories up there. Unfortunately it is a pay site but I guess they pay you if they use your stories. That and she tells me that there is really good community feedback and such. There is another one that she posts on that is free and as soon as I can get a hold of her ill will shoot that one over to you as well.
