Title: The Good the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Post by: Oldskool138 on September 28, 2007, 08:25:42 PM
Is this not the best Western ever put on film?  I mean, just watch this scene!  No dialog but it tells a story nonetheless.

I remember watching this movie when it was on TNT or something (a while back) and I was almost literally floored by the ending shootout.  This is one of my favorite movies of all time (top ten at least).

Who could argue this isn't a great film??  One of my favorites, too... though I do admit that the 45rpm single helped lure me in to look at the film (the single charted in the Top 40, I think, and I for one owned that 45 !!)  GREAT movie !!

True but you'd figure the whole "bad guy talking about how he's going to kill the good guy before he actually does it" thing would have been put to rest back in 1966 but I guess the Hollywood hacks never got that memo.

It's an Italian production, as in "Spaghetti Western..."     Hollywood was always glad to distribute a film, especially if it was likely to make money...

"BLONDIEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

Andhow many films have paid hommage to the shoot-out...? As in this scene with Clint and Co. in KELLT'S HEROS?

My favourite Leone film. I recently got the latest DVD edition with restored scenes, and it's sitting in my shelf waiting for a rainy afternoon.

Too many things I like to list here, but one in the top 5 must be what Oldskool138 mentions, the sparce dialogue. And the scenes with Tucco about to be hanged while his crimes are listed, and Angel Eyes. And the music, classic. And...

Damnit.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY is one of my favorite all time films, but it wouldn't have been as good without Eli Wallach as Tuco.

I agree!  Eli Wallach gave the movie it's humor and heart! Though the other Leone westerns are great...Tuco gives this one  some of it's best scenes!

I love it too, but I actually prefer ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.

Speaking of sparse dialogue:
