Title: THE EARTH DIES SCREAMING (1965)

This movie is on a Midnite Movies double feature DVD with CHOSEN SURVIVORS.

An American test pilot living in England lands his plane and discovers that everyone on the ground is dead!  Well . . . almost everyone.  He eventually meets a small group of survivors and they try to figure out what the hell is going on.  Before long, they learn that the Earth is under attack from aliens wearing metallic suits and clear dome helmets.  The aliens start resurrecting dead bodies and using them as mindless zombie slaves with pure white eyeballs.

This movie is only 62 minutes long, isn't quite as exciting as it sounds, and, in my opinion, was made a few years too late.  Black & white sci-fi movies like this were more popular in the late 1950s.

The exterior scenes reminded me a lot of VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED . . . in fact, the first few minutes of the movie were very similar to the first few minutes of VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED.

A decent flick, but certainly not a classic.  Directed by Terence Fisher, who was responsible for many of Hammer's most famous horror movies.

Watched the whole film on Youtube and it's a Sci-Fi/Horror B-British Classic for sure. How is it that this film was forgotten. It's my kind of movie. It reminds me of a few other films, but I still like what they did here.

The first time I saw this was via the new double feature DVD set under MGM's Midnite Movies and I'm really glad that they included it.  I liked it that the characters were all subtle, compared to modern ones.  Watching a modern low-budget flick (darn you, UFO), they heroes are always know-it-alls who immediately take charge and do little more than annoy me.  Meanwhile, most of the problem child characters should just scream, "I am going to go off the handle!" or, "Look, I am a criminal!" rather than the terrible lines that they utter, which say the same thing.

A sticky point in "The Earth Dies Screaming" was how darn dumb the automatons are.  They only killed the one older lady after she walked up and tapped one on the shoulder.  Later, when they started taking interest in the humans, I was confused.  Did the robotic killers require calibration?

There's good reason for that - THE EARTH DIES SCREAMING used some stock footage from VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED.

Kindest regards,

I agree with you on new movie character approches and the more subtle older films. Older films are so much better.
