Title: Watermelon man (1970)
Post by: lester1/2jr on October 27, 2007, 09:22:44 AM
directed by Melvin Van Peebles.  This was an entertaining if not laugh out loud funny comedy.  the premise is a white guy wakes up black.   alot of suspension of disbelief is required as you can imagine.  to start,  he doesn't really look very white when he's white.   Eddie Murphy would eventually do this much better.   The main character has a preposterous amount of lines, there are no other developed characters in the movie.   the comedy is sort of corny and pg rated but occasionally smile / guffaw enducing.   It doesn't transcend the script or concept the way a good movie should, but it is not a bad way to spend 90 minutes on a weeknight.

And Godfrey Cambridge in white face. That's where I turned the movie off.
