Do you like guys in cheap Yeti suits, green screen backdrops in place of actual sets, Photoshop-quality digital f/x, mismatched editing, excessive use of stock footage, and continuity errors galore? If so, then you should enjoy hearing about Cine Excel Entertainment's King Kong knock-off THE ABOMINABLE...
Yep, we're talking modern day Ed Wood style filmmaking - though I dare not say at its finest.
QuoteDino De Laurenitiis had a famous quote in regards to his 1976 remake of King Kong: "When monkey dies, everybody cry." I've got my own version in regards to The Abominable...: "When 'Snowy' appears, everyone cries tears - of laughter." The film's heroine who the giant Yeti takes a shine to actually nicknames it "Snowy", and why not? It looks to be about on par with a college football mascot costume based on the Abominable Snowman from Rankin-Bass' "Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer". Every second it's on screen I was looking for the zipper; I think I even saw it a few times. They even digitally animated eyes for it during certain close-ups; eyes that don't always match up and seem to be floating around inside its head. If Kong was "The 8th Wonder of the World" then Snowy is "The 9th Wonder of the World", as in you wonder how they could expect anybody to take it seriously.
I dare say the nature of this film and the stills that accompany the review make this a must read. Besides, odds are none of you are ever going to even get a chance to see this movie with your own eyes.
THE ABOMINABLE... REVIEW (http://www.dreadcentral.com/node/25275)
Haven't seen you around for a while there, Foywonder. You've really got a nose for garbage, this movie looks painful from just looking at the few stills in your review.
If you think those stills look bad then check out the film's trailer on YouTube. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-nATh8G-5w)

I think that's the first time I've seen the ship bulkheads that look to be made from sheetrock. The bald guy needs some dental work.
Hahaha, great review Foy! Would it be at all possible to get a copy of this, or would you be able to point me in the direction of whatever black market cinemasochist it was that you got your copy from?
Here's where I got it from. (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=AXDS-1158) A bit pricey though.
probably a stupid question, but will region 2 play in my computer?i know it doesn't on any of my dvd players...
Thanks Foy! Though you're right, that is quite pricey, I may be unable to resist...
316, if you're unsure about whether your DVD program can play other regional DVDs, you should be able to find out somewhere within the program's help files or you can do a quick check online for compatibility. I want to say that yes, the majority of computer based DVD programs can play all regions, but if that's not the case, you can also make all-region back-up copies of DVDs from any region if you download "DVD Shrink", which is a free program. This way you can make burned all-region copies to play in your DVD player too.
WOW!HOW COOL!thank you so much for the info,i'm not great with computers at all,and i'm very new to a nonmac, lol! i will check into dvd shrink asap.again, thank you so much, this is so cool!can i ask another question?is there an adaptor program of some kind that will convert PAL to NTSC?
That I'm not 100% sure about. I know that you can convert PAL to NTSC and vice versa with Nero, but that's a pricey program and it's kinda irritating if you're only a casual burner. Truth be told, it'd be cheaper to buy a new DVD player that allows for both PAL and NTSC play and they usually cost no more than $40, which is less than what you'd have to pay to buy a license for Nero. Once you've got one of those, you can play region-0 discs as burned from DVD Shrink. I'll see if I can pull a PAL to NTSC conversion tonight though and let you know if DVD Shrink can do it though.
oh,this is so cool!any brand recommendations?and how do i tell if the player will play both formats, will it say on the box, maybe?bless your heart,i REALLY appreciate the help!
No brand reccomendations I can offer really 316, I would just check the specs of the players. If you're buying from a store, it should say something along the lines of "PAL/NTSC" on the box. It's become a more and more common function in players I've purchased over the last year or two and I don't think I paid more than $40 for one, so long as you don't mind taking a chance with a generic brand. Then again, if you're like me and you're only buying the player itself to play Region 0 PAL discs, you probably won't need to worry about overtaxing it much anyway. There are plenty of such systems available on eBay if you don't mind picking up the shipping too, just type in "PAL NTSC dvd player".
just discovered that the dvd player i bought for my best friend's b-day plays pal,29 bucks at wally's!!i'm there!!!
At least it's more original and worthwhile than remaking King Kong.
Yes, but, I think what those of us who have seen Future War really want to know is. .
How many empty boxes does the Abominable crash through during the course of this 'movie'?
a dollar bet on 91!
Does it feature lots of cardboard boxes, a martial artist, cyborgs which make the sound of a remote control car; and pixellated POV shots? :teddyr:
