Title: Shriek Show Triple Pack: The Being
Post by: Scott on November 07, 2007, 02:13:04 PM
Saw a Shriek Show Triple pack on the shelve. One of the three films was film called THE BEING. And there is a flash type comment on the back of the box that says "badmovies says go get a copy" or something to that effect. Thought it was interesting. Was tempted to buy the triple pack for $15.

For the three movies, the price is pretty good.  "Creatures from the Abyss" is probably my favorite out of that pack.  "The Being" is really awful, but it does put forward a mayor protecting the interests of Big Potato in the film.  Funny thing you mention it, because my update for this weekend is going to be a revamped review for "The Being."

The quote is actually two separate things I said in the review, lumped together to make it seem like I said something else:

"A rare find.  Grab some friends to watch this."

I recall watching The Being. Man that movie was indeed a stinker. I sold a while back, then saw it on that triple pack you mentioned and probably would have bought it for my still growing horror collection, but I already own Creatures from the Abyss, which I refer to as "Evil Dead on a yacht" I call it that since it seems to share many similarities to Evil Dead, except replace demons with fish monsters. Even the ending with the main guy is like the ending to Evil Dead.

Back on The Being, I would say I've seen worse, but it was one definitely up there for people whom maybe like to sit down and rip on movies while they're watching to watch.

This has inspired me to put up my review of The Being.  I never did because Andrew had already done it.

That was the Badmovies.org quote. Andrew, you know you've made the big time when your website is mentioned on a DVD triple pack.

I picked this set up about two months ago from Best Buy.  Great set.  The Dark, The Being and Creatures From The Abyss.  I mainly picked it up for a good copy of The Being as I still have an original Thorn EMI VHS release of the film.

I think I only paid around 15 or so for the whole set.  Well worth the price, especially considering the films in the set.

I picked up The Being for 7.99 when it originally came out by itself. Then the re-release  as part of this 3 pack and charge only 14.99 for the whole thing.  Wish I had held out a while for that instead.

But as for the Being, one of my "favorite" parts is when the woman locks the being in that freezer store room thing, she says "I got it!" and Mortimer Putz says blankly "I'll call the mayor".  My friends and I quote that line all the time for various things.

Mortimer Putz

I so hate that character as the hero.

I loved that part. Also the scene where they're chasing the monster(?) at night, it cuts to its mother wandering the dump while the sun's out, then back to the nighttime chase.

Anyway, yeah, this is a stinky movie but was ridiculous enough to be enjoyable.
