I was looking thru my movies that Ive had for a long time but have never watched because I was going to give one to my friend for his birthday as a joke. I came across EVIL SPAWN. I decided to watch it at least once before I gave it to him. Now I dont know if I should give it to him.
It kicks off with an episode of "Night Owl Theatre" with Fred Olen Ray, which I always enjoy watching. But once the movie started, things got ugly.....sort of. It starts with these kids being attacked by this guy whos been infected with what I like to call "bug juice". He ripps a kids arm off and then the movies plot starts.
Theres this actress whos apparently past her prime and dessprate for roles but all she can get is lame low budget b-movie sci-fis. (Ironic?) Yes, actually, it is. See, this was funny the first time this gag came around, but they just kept using it. The entire movie, the cast spits out lines that make fun of the movie like, "This isnt a sci-fi movie, this is real!" and a few other lines that are simmilar. This would be fine if this was a comedy, but it doesnt really seem to fit in a horror.
This movie has LOTS of boobies in it but dare I say.....too much? Alot of it seemed really unessesary and over the top, even for me, who loves over the top goofy stuff. But this wasn't goofy or silly, it was just overdone. I mean, SURE, they were NICE boobies, but I wanted to watch horrifying monsters horrify and put me in a state of awe. not watch a bunch of sillicone flop around for an hour. Amazingly, this movie was slow.
Ya know, I just might give this to my friend anyway.
Breasts have their place, but cannot sustain a movie alone. The assistant's body was quite nice. I was happy to see her decide to take a dip in the pool. John Carradine looked terrible in this film. I think it might have been his last appearance prior to his death (and it was footage he recorded a bit before the movie proper was made). Otherwise, the plot is just a copy of "The Wasp Woman" with music ripped off from "The Thing." The music drove me nuts. Did you like the music in "The Thing?"

I like this movie. A LOT. In fact...it's one of my favorite z-budget movies! Like Kyotec said...it has lotsa boobies,cheap gore,a rubber mask monster -even a cameo by Forry Ackerman-(he's the pool man.). I really like the scene where Bobbie Breese pukes white gunk on the camera lens! Dawn Wildsmith sticks a gun in her yap too! And herThe camera gives us a nice close-up of her brains dripping down the wall!This is a GREAT BAD movie!!! I treasure my copy....!!!
Ya know, I watched this again tonight, but this time I watched it in a room full of people so somehow it became the most entertaining movie ive ever seen, probobly because we were all laughing our guts out and adding our own MST3Kish commentary to it. I did end up giving this one to my friend for his birthday, but I might have to go re-buy this one.
