Anyone know about this? I don't know anything about this guy, his shows (no, I never saw Lost), or if its some osort of awful 'Zilla meets Joel Schumacher's Batman films... i.e. no love for the material. Anyone? Is ittime for a truly good American giant monster film?

Someone posted a "picture of the monster" on one of the link sites I go to off of ForteanTimes.com, but I can't remember which one now --
Anyway, it sort of looked like a giant sand flea with a tail and a catfish head with tentacles. IF it's really a real movie . . . there seems to be some doubt, now . ..

I saw the teaser with Transformers which showed the party, what sounds like an explosion, then the head from the Statue of Liberty comes rolling down the street. The name and no other information appeared except the release date 01-18-08. I all looked like it was shot with a hand held video camera.
The full starts out the same way.

Crave online slow down part of the trailer and you can see the monster's legs moving amidst some buildings getting crumbled.
Here's a drawing (probably not real) of the monster. http://www.beyondhollywood.com/the-cloverfield-monster-revealed/
Yep, that's the same drawing I saw --
Love how they up the ante with the giant sandflea parasites -- That's a very Harlan Ellison touch: He's the only writer I know of who did a time travel/dinosaur story wherein when the hunter shot his dino, huge parasites jumped off it & started eating the protagonist.
Nice touch --

I really like the look of the beastie in that drawing, sort of like an enormous blue whale / sea turtle hybrid. If that really is what the monster will look like(hopefully), then I'm officially excited about this movie.
I like the monster, I like the plot, but man, the title bugs me! What's a Cloverfield? They're not naming the monster that are they? :buggedout:

I would assume that it's a city involved in the story.
Well, you know, the internet has been ablazed about this movie since the first trailer hit back in July. I'm admittedly interested but all that shaky-cam gives me a headache.
Look at the picture of the monster (http://www.beyondhollywood.com/the-cloverfield-monster-revealed/) compared to the Statue of Liberty. Note especially the size of the monster's hands & fingers and the size of the Statue's head.
Now look at the background picture here (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/cloverfield/).
There is no way that monster made those claw marks on the Statue whilst ripping off its head. The monster's hands are way too big! (And no, I didn't sit here studying it; the size mismatch hit me immediately when I saw the pics of the monster.)
To sum up, I don't believe those are accurate representations of this film's monster. If those pics are real, then this movie just might give Godzilla (1998) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120685/) a run for the money for suckiest American daikaiju film.

Poster art has been known to take some artistic licence to create an image with a bit more punch. The smaller claw marks suggest a monster ripped the head off. I don't think they could have given that impression if they didn't mess with the scale of things, at least not with such a dramatic image.
I'm pretty sure that artwork was declared fake awhile ago so you folks concerned about its size need not worry.
DAMN!!! I was hoping it wasn't it looks cool as hell!!!
I haven't liked any of Abrams' stuff, the whole thing seems to be done in shaky-cam, and it seems to be about a guy trying to reuninte with his loved one against a backdrop of giant monster meyhem.
I don't know if I'll see this or not.
Am going to go try and see this opening night ... I'm just hoping they keep the sappy stuff to a minimum and have plenty of random things exploding, buildings knocked off the foundations, landmarks defaced, extras mashed underfoot, that sort of thing.
