Title: Vigilante (1983) fred williamson
Post by: lester1/2jr on November 28, 2007, 10:19:12 AM
I don't know if one credits Guliani or his police chief Bratton or both with the massive decrease in crime in New York City, but those of us who experienced it beforehand know this movie is not an exaggeration.  A sadistic multi racial street gang terrorize a woman for the offense of trying to stop the gangs leader from beating up an old gas station attendent . they follow her back to her house and...well they terrorize her.    So after a kangaroo court gives the thug a suspended sentence the ad hoc community group headed by Fred Williamson decides to take matters in to their own hands.

The first movie that came to mind was Roberta Findleys ultra violent "Tenement", but I have to say this was a lot easier to watch than that, mainly because it wasn't all shot in the same building!  The music is spare but great:  half provided by Salsa legend Willie Colon and half some serious early 80's eerie keyboard heavy metal weirdness.  I don't know that there is any message other than if someone messes with you it's perfectly okay to mess with them back.  and authority is corrupt and should be ignored.  my only complaint is there is one rather large plot hole involving the trial where it appears one sizable element of the crime is left out and no one notices.  but beyond that it definately exeeded my expectations so big thumbs up.

here's the scary German trailer w/ different title

Did this also star Robert Forrester? And directed by Bill(MANIAC) Lustig? If it's the same one I'm thinking of...well,DAM! That's a pretty brutal movie! And I say that in a good way!

Well, in an extremely brutal way, yes.  But if Vigilante is anywhere near Maniac's level of violence, it's probably worth watching in its own way, too.

I don't know of too many films that are as almost unwatchably brutal than MANIAC.
Well...yes I can...but MANIAC is undoubtly William Lustigs most violent film. FX by Tom Savini...serial killer gory slaghter!
