Ever been browsing through DVD's somewhere and came upon something magnificent, with an even more magnificent price tag ?
My best find was probably the Lucio Fulci Collection Volume 1 for 4.99.
Welcome aboard, GrandMaster!
This is a hard one to figure, but I'd say "The Blind Dead Collection" for, if memory serves right, about $45 or so. Wonder if I could find that receipt? No matter what, I know it was much less than the $89 I've seen online.
About a month ago I got Brazil - The Criterion Collection (3-Disc Boxed Set) at a thrift store for 50 cents. It was like new and sells new on Amazon for $53.99, so I'd call that a $53.49 savings. Somehow I think that was a accidental donation.
I once found a copy of Demon Seed on Amazon for a penny (+ S&H), brand new, factory sealed.
Still, there are times I get pretty excited over some of the classic baddies I find on the $1.00 rack, my all time favorite being my first $1.00 DVD, Santa Claus (1959)
I was happy to find Duel to the Death for $10.00 at a Navy Exchange when I always saw it for $20+ on the internet.

The local thrift store sells all DVD's, VHS, CD's, Albums and Cassette for 50 cents each regardless of what it is. 99.9% is junk titles but I stop by to see what they've got, and I had to do a double take when I saw it, as I said somehow I think that was a accidental donation and someone out there is sill looking for it. I've stopped by there many times since and it's normally just junk title not worth 50 cents.
"Blood Feast" on VHS with original big box art online from a warehouse in Tennessee for $1 + s&h. My favorite film of all time too!
Here are some of my favorite finds...most found at the flea market for $2.00 apeice.
.EVIL SPAWN-In the original BIG Box.
.2000 MANIACS-Big Box
.BLOOD FREAK-In the original VHS Video Gems Box!
.AVENGING DISCO GODFATHER-In the Xeon box!
.SOUL VENGANCE-Original Xeon box
.COMBAT SHOCK-for a dollar!!!
.DON't LOOK in the BASEMENT-Big clamshell box
....and my prize-DEVIL MASTER (aka) DEMON LOVER-Donald Jackson's Michigan made looong out of print z-budget Satanist movie...in origianl clamshell box!
I have a LOT of videos in the old type huge clamshell cases....cheezy art and all!!!
I have a HUMAN MONSTER tape (with Bela Lugosi) that has a intro before the movie, showing some lady welcoming 'you to the world of video cassete recordings! We have many titles of classic films to choose from...many for under $30.00! No need to spend hundreds for your favorite film anymore!" :teddyr:
I picked up an abominable 1986 slasher flick called Night Ripper at a rental store sale 6 or 7 years ago for $2. Original clamshell case, in perfect condition, no stickers. Very rare, very badly made. There are a few copies of it being sold on Amazon with cut up box art slipped into basic VHS cases for $35+ with one original clamshell that fits the description of mine for $58. Makes me wish I'd bought more of the original clamshell videos back when stores were converting to DVD and getting rid of them for poor house prices. :bluesad:
I found the Criterion DVD of Robocop in a pawn shop used bin for only 8 bucks a few years back. It was in mint condition too.
I guess mine would have to be my VHS of Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny. Less than $2 at a going-out-of-business video shop. Seriously, though, if you want to find some real good out of print videos, find a mom-and-pop video place selling its stock or any flea market where they may be trying to dump off some of their no-longer-in-demand tapes.
That's where I also got my copies of Mail Gun Massacre, Night of Horror and Slugs for less than 3 bucks, IIRC.

I agree! Most of my vhs collection has come from Flea Markets.
The Criterion Collection release of The 39 Steps along with the restored DVD of Black Sabbath for $7 from a pawn shop.
All three seasons of Due South for about $17 each from Best Buy. It's a no frills edition, weak picture quality, and almost random chapters stops; but the prices were much less than the prices they were asking on Amazon a year or two earlier, maybe $45 a season. I'd like more features, better picture, etc but I doubt there's enough of a fan base for a bells and whistles anniversary edition.
I love when rental places sell all of their VHS. Got the following for a buck each:
Slaughter High
Deadly Friend
Shocker
Kentucky Fried Movie
Fire In the Sky
Aliens
Robocop 2
Ghoulies III
The Batman vs Dracula

I'd buy that for a dollar
I have way too many to list I consider finds due to rental stores getting rid of VHS or Amazon's used section, but I'd say the best was getting Night of the Creeps for $2 on VHS at a local pawn shop. That was what truly got me buying up all the old movies I watched from rental places and stuff when I could. That and Terrorvision for $1.50 at another pawn shop when it wasn't going for under $20 used on Amazon.
Now I'm still waiting to luck out on scoring Galaxy of Terror among a few other movies for cheap somehow....
Is GALAXY of TERROR taht hard to find? I just GAVE a vhs of it to KYOTEC awhile back! DOH! :buggedout:

Not so much hard to find as it is hard to find cheap through Amazon. A few old horror movies of the 80s have proven to be quite pricey, yet with the possibility of not being released again hovering over...
you have terrorvision???i have a customer who would die to meet you!she ONLY wants the original vhs tape...btw,ebay has tons of galaxy of terror at varied prices,i wish i had one to sel, lol!
hey, does anyone know of a legit copy of dead of night, the dan curtis version?
oops,my best find was barn of the blood llama for 2 dollars, bought 2 copies, sold one for 64 dollars!with a penny start to the auction!!!
and i just got a great find, the original spiral staircase for 4 bucks, yay!!!!
I don't think these are bad movies, but they are my best purchases.
My best ever purchase was a few weeks ago. Soul Man with C. Thomas Howell for $3.00!!
The most recent good purchase was the entire boxed collection with extra features of Angel (David Boreanaz) for $129.
I used to troll this local junk store that served as a liquidation house for failing video stores. They had bins full of thousands of tapes that I would spend an afternoon sifting through looking for gems. I found a lot of treasure in these bins since these were mom and pop shops bowing out to the power of Blockbuster Video. The greatest find I ever made was an original big box Wizard Video edition of The Texas Chaninsaw Massacre.
A little history: Charles Band was one of the first people in the infancy of the home video market to take a chance on horror movies. He splurged on Txas Saw and was the first person to release it. I believe it was the first Wizard Video release and is still in these post-VHS days to be a collector's item.
The box was kept in a plastic slip case to protect it and even with that, it was still a little beat up. The tape, itself, suffered from a few drop outs but otherwise looked good. It cost me $2.50 and still fetches a heft price tag when it pops up on ebay.
you're not just whistling dixie!that baby goes for some bucks!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre ('70s version), for like, $4.99
also:
White Christmas- The Bing Crosby flick, for like, $6

I've got this movie on VHS as well along with a DVD of it.
I'm not sure how many times it got released on VHS but I don't think it would be that hard to find on that particular format.
I got both the soundtrack and a brand new copy of the hip hop classic "Wild Style" used for like 11.99 together.
