Title: BIG LOTS 50 MOVIE PACKS
Post by: CheezeFlixz on December 04, 2007, 05:53:12 PM
If you have a BIG LOTS (one of the greatest stores in the world) they have, at least at the ones around here the 50 movies packs that just came in today. I saw The Sci Fi, Horror, Nightmare, Western and 2 different 150 show packs of Mystery and Detective. They might get more titles, I asked.

There $13 each which is up $2 over last year.

FYI.

edit:
I got the Night Mare pack the rest I already have. Content looks pretty good, might watch some later.

Awesome news. I had held off getting these at the local Best Buy near where I live as they're now asking 22.99 a piece for those sets.

There's a Big Lots not too far from my house actually. I'll check it out on my way to work tomorrow and see if they have them in at that price as well.

If you're a Borders club member they now carry some of Mill Creek's 50 movie packs as well.  So if you aren't a Sam's Club member between Big Lots and Borders coupons you should be able to pick up some of these sets on the cheap.

Just be aware their video quality ranges from VHS dub to bootleg shot through a mud smeared window on a rainy day.

Even on the 50 movie packs you can double dip on, I've seen the same movie on 2 or 3 different sets but you get enough stuff on it I think that even with the dupes it's still a deal. And yeah often the quality is pretty crappy on some (most) of them. But at $13.00 for 50 which is about $0.26 each I can deal with a few dupes.

I think I have about 20 of the 50 Movie packs and a few of the 100 and 150 on the shows, there hard to pass up when I see one I don't have.

And yeah often the quality is pretty crappy on some (most) of them.

I have most of the 50 movie packs (and the WESTERN CLASSICS 100 movie pack, which is really just the WESTERN CLASSICS and GUNSLINGER 50 movie packs combined in a single set).  I disagree about the quality being pretty crappy on "most" of the movies.  From my experience, there may be a couple of movies in each set that I would consider "crappy" quality.  In fact, of all the movies I've watched so far in these sets, there have probably been only 2 or 3 that I would say are unwatchable (or nearly unwatchable).  One example is BELL FROM HELL.  The picture is decent, but the audio is so muffled that you need to turn your volume way up and you still can't understand some of the dialogue.  However, for the most part I have been pleasantly surprised with the quality, especially for the money.  I think most of the movies are good to very good quality.  Some are even better than "very good."  And occasionally, you stumble across a few that are in widescreen format (another bonus!)

Initially, I was afraid to buy these sets.  I would generally rather pay more and get better quality and I figured at such a low price, the quality on these would be awful.  However, I bought the MYSTERY CLASSICS 50 movie pack as an experiment and was shocked at the good quality of the first several movies I watched.  Sure, the quality isn't nearly good as when you buy a copy of a recent "big studio" release on DVD, but it's at least as good or better than VHS in most cases.  Now I'm addicted to these sets.

The Big Lots in Longmont, Colorado, sells the Mill Creek 20 packs for $6.00 -- so $.30 per film.
I have their Incredibly Strange Films 20 and the Cult Classics 20 -- Cult Classics has Terror of Tiny Town!!

They're on 250 movie packs now, so I would guess the next logical one would be a 500 movie pack and then maybe the 1000 movie pack.
