A little early, I know but tomorrow (12th December) is our last full working day for the year here at www.national.archives.gov.za (http://www.national.archives.gov.za) as the 13th is set aside for our end of year function and we are at work for only a few hours on Friday. I won't be at or near a PC until next year so therefore this early post.

Guess I'll have to wait to ask you about Target of an Assassin starring Anthony Quinn until next year.
Still here for a while..... Warm greetings to all!
I have never had a white Christmas, our festive season is warm and sunny, spent outside by the braai (barbecue) and the pool. If we don't have a Weber, we steal one and if we don't have a pool, we use dynamite :buggedout: and Hey Presto!: one burst waterpipe later, we have a ready made pool. :teddyr:
That film you mentioned, Yaddo, has got more titles than I have undies...Tigers Don't Cry, Running Scared, Portrait of An Assassin, Fatal Assassin, African Rage, Target of An Assassin, The Long Shot......
It was one of those films that the SA goverment invested heavily in to prove to SA's naysayers that SA was a place for progress and was also financed by two gentlemen named Thys Heyns and Van Zyl Alberts, both of whom had fingers in the cow pies of government, especially in the Department of Information.
Many films involving A list celebrities and filmmakers breaking apartheid era boycotts of SA and working here, were made in this way in the 1970's with direct government knowledge and involvement such as Gold, Shout At The Devil, The Golden Rendezvous and even The Wild Geese to some extent.
Despite the government meddling, Target of An Assassin is an unusually exciting film and it follows the Jon Burmeister book well enough to be very similar. Most of this film was made in Pretoria and the surrounding areas: they even used the Pretoria municipal buildings for John Phillip Law's assassin to try and shoot the President from in his motorcade and the Hartebeespoort holiday resort and cableway for the action scenes. Just FYI: those cablecar stunts were real, no CGI or greenscreen or wirework involved there at all. :buggedout:
Enjoy the break Trevor and best holiday wishes. I've also never had a white Christmas, in fact it's been a while since I had a Christmas where I didn't wear shorts...
:hot:
:teddyr: Welcome back, Dean: hope you had a good holiday.
The only time I ever see snow is either on my TV or in my fridge. :buggedout:

Sunshine for Christmas is GREAT. Let me tell you guys, if you've lived with snow all of your life, it's overrated! There is no denying nature's magnificence in all its forms, including the splendor of falling snow, and a landscape blanketed with fresh snow. However... shoveling it, driving through it, even walking in it, can be arduous, dangerous, tedious... it's cold, it's wet, it's heavy, it quickly soils and looks, well, grimy, it melts and becomes ice...
I dream of retiring to a warm climate, watching the palm trees sway on Christmas Eve, while listening to
BING CROSBY sing "Mele Kalikimaka" or the
DINNING SISTERS with BOB ATCHER "Christmas Island" "How'dya like to spend Christmas... on Christmas Island...?"
Merry Christmas, happy holidays, spread good cheer.
Merry Christmas to u Trevor and all our fellow bad movie lovers. Here's hoping you have a cheesiest of Christmas holidays movie-wise anyways! :teddyr:
