Welcome aboard, Arnold!
Wild, I had totally missed this film being released or maybe I dismissed it after being burned by some other low-budget fantasy/sword films ("Druids" comes to mind). Checking Amazon, it looks like this has not been released on R1 DVD and the R2 DVD is pretty expensive, because I think it is OOP. Unfortunately, going to have to wait on tracking it down as a result.
Darn! And I thought I we were going to talk about the 1954 version of the film. I'll talk about it anyway. Not a "good" film by any means, but it is alot of fun to watch, probably because it has more than a solid cast. Robert Wagner as the title character and James Mason, Janet Leigh, Debra Paget, Sterling Hayden, Victor McLaglen, Donald Crisp, Brian Aherne, and George Sander's brother, Tom Conway. And in uncredited roles you can find such character actors as Neville Brand, Primo Carnera, John Dierkes, Michael Rennie, Basil Ruysdaael, and Mickey Simpson.
As for the comic strip upon which both films were based, it began in the weekend papers on February 13, 1937, and still can be seen in some papers even today.
