If anything was a staple of a pop 80s television diet it was this show.

I remember this mainly because of the Solid Gold Dancers and it was also where Arsenio Hall got his start on TV.
I watched this religiously as a kid. I used to say I wanted to be a solid gold dancer when I grew up. Alas, it was not to be...
Watched it back when I was a kid too - it was the only thing on rural tv stations on Saturday after cartoons.
Ozzymandias speaks: I didn't realize how great Solid Gold was until it was gone. Countdown, great performances, comedy, videos and the Solid Gold dancers.
Also I realized how just how great it was when Hullabaloo came out on video a few years back. Even though I have a THING for cheerleaders, the Hullabaloo dancers were dorky compared to the scantly clad Solid Gold dancers. Also, why was the one girl on Hullabaloo in a cage? Was she THAT WILD? Also, the host (Heddy Lamar, Don Adams, Mickey Rooney or Jerry Lewis) should not be allowed to sing if that is not their profession (Jack Jones, Bobby Vinton and Brenda Lee could get away with it). Also they had the guest sing the top 10 hits of the week even if it wasn't their hit (Although I wish the Lovin Spoonful HAD recorded a version of Little Jimmy Dickens "May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose" and David McCallum's 'Yeah Baby's on "Agent Double O-Soul" must have influenced Mike Myers).

"my head keeps spinning to music spinnin to GOOOOOOOOLD"
Its amazing what a hub this show was for pop 80s culture. All the top songs with dance numbers and performances with the top artists is something you don't see much of today. Maybe thats a good thing nowadays but back then it was always a good watch.
