I caught this one on AMC this last Saturday afternoon and didn't expect it to be all that good; boy was I surprised! Of course, it's hard to top Kubrick's classic 2001 but this was really good.
Sure, the whole Cold War thing was a change of direction from the first and some parts were rather hokey (80s n all) but overall, it was a good sequel, although it seemed to be more of a spinoff/what-if than a sequel.
The most effective part for me was when they were trying to board the spinning, derelict Discovery in the depths of Space -that was pretty intense. I also liked the ending regarding HAL.
Good stuff.
I liked that movie a lot as well. The plot was quite clever and the lead actor (can't remember his name at the moment) did an excellent job.
just got this a few days back, the actor is 'roy schieder'
some of the sfx are dated but a good one overall, and HAL asking if he'll dream always brings a tear
and only 2 more years to wait :bouncegiggle:
I haven't seen it this one since I was a teenager. I remember it was very entertaining and not dense at all, specially when compared to the original.
