Title: Cheezy 80's fliK: BOARDING HOUSE
Post by: RCMerchant on February 21, 2008, 09:05:56 PM
OK...so last night I was re-watching my Paragon video of NIGHT BEAST and they had some wonderful old trailers...for films such as Orsen Welles in the WITCHING, a hillbilly/redneck movie I had once long ago called HOTWIRE, an obscure horror flik called FUNERAL HOME...and...

BOARDINGHOUSE!!!! in Horror -Vision yet. (Translation: it was shot on video...a novelty in the early 80's.)

Looks to be prime BAD stuff...! I NEED TO SEE!!! Anybody seen it? Is it worth the hunt?

Heh!
That looks absolutely awful!   :tongueout:
I want to see it too.

Check out the IMDB page for it.  People seem to love it.

That trailer was so good, I added it to the Badmovies.org Myspace page!

It's included in the huge definitive underground horror book " Nightmare: USA: exploitation of the independents".

so I guess that qualifies as a "cult following".

Was that Christina Ricci in the pig outfit?

'cause she's in a new movie and in it she looks like a pig... sorry.

Looked real good otherwise!

This is one of the movies I mentioned in the "Movies you have that no one else has ever heard of" thread.  I need to dig it out and watch it again soon.

It's truly awful.  Cheap gore, telekinesis, horrible acting, a lead that looks like Malcolm McDowell at a swinger's convention, and plot holes galore. RC and everyone else, I think you will love it.  As long as you don't mind lots of gratuitous shower scenes with the female leads.

I have this around here on VHS, you're correct, it's just awful, obviously taped, not filmed, the acting is bad, the story is silly and it has a sex scene that just cracks me up, the young lady is not really interested so her boyfriend is forcing the issue, she's resisting, but not to hard and at one point she slaps him and says "you f-----", I know this is not a funny subject, but in the context of this stupid movie her calling him that while he's doing what he's doing just kills me. This is one of those that is worth a look if you can get for a reasonable price (free would be best).

Bela never did a shower scene, did he?  He was too classy for that kind of cheap thrill!

Contrary to popular opinion, or rumor, this movie was not shot on video, but on film. I saw this when it was released, at the drive-in. It had as fine of resolution as any other film shown on the drive-in screen, and that would be impossible for video at the time; even though it looks as though it was shot on video which is primarily horrible lighting.

Not contrary to popular opinion, this is a truly awful movie. Of course, for true bad movie lovers, this could be right up your alley.

The horror-vision, or whatever they called it, was a gimmick. The movie was touted as having such extreme gore that it required a warning system for people who might not be able to take it. Whenever a gloved hand flexed on the screen, you had the option of turning away; I guess to prevent from laughing your head off at the horrible effects.

Hi,Menard!

I really NEED to see this one....I been getting into a lot of the early '80's obscurities lately....EVIL SPAWN is a favorite...and direct to video  drek like KILLING SPREE and TRUTH or DARE: a CRITICAL MADNESS-both by auter(?)Tim Ritter.

DVD release date is April 29.

Hope there's a commentary to explain how this shot-on-video legend got started.  Maybe it was the first feature movie released directly to video (and the film was only screened in theaters later?)

I know nothing about types of film.  IMDB says the film negative format was "Video" and the printed film format was "35 mm."
