Title: Hand with an eye...
Post by: Spanky on February 26, 2008, 11:12:22 PM
I have a very vague memory from childhood of this particular flick. I remember it takes place in a house that practically gets torn apart and rampaged by monsters while the main character, a child who somehow caused the ruckus in the first place, tries to set things straight. At one point, an eye grows out of his hand and he stabs it with a knife or shard of glass. I believe there were zombies present as well. Hopefully this is enough for one of you guys to identify. My cousin made me watch it with him one night when I refused to go to bed. It scared the s**t out of me. But I sat through it, damnit!
Any help??

Spanky, I do believe you're referencing The Gate. The kid in question and his dork-meister friend summon up evil demons by playing a heavy metal record backwards.

Wow, I guess it wasn't as obscure as I thought. The heavy metal playing backwards part sounds somewhat familiar. Thanks for the help!

"The Gate" is one of my personal faves. Very cool concept! Plus, those little mini-demons were creepy as hell!

Here's a clip of the film that I found on Youtube:

This shows the main demon from the climax that puts an eye on young Stephen Dorff's palm!  :teddyr: Good job on figuring this one out Anubis!

No problem Spanky, The Gate is one of those rare but classic '80s "child hero" movies that manages to not suck, like The Monster Squad. Always good for a viewing.

Indeed! After seeing this post, I sat down late last night and watched it. Some of the effects still hold up well (except for some animated evil moths) and those little tiny demon creatures are still creepy little bastards.
