I grew up watching this movie almost daily back in the early days of The Movie Channel. It was my first introduction to that which is the Ramones and I've loved them ever since.
Take your standard teen movie at the time, grab PJ Soles from Halloween/Carrie fame, a B-movie Queen, Mary Woronov (Death Race 2000) as the fascist Principal and throw in a punk band of the times and you've got a cheezy, yet entertaining movie that's basically about going to a concert, taking over and blowing up your High School. Naturally, like Heathers, this movie wouldn't or couldn't be made today.
Rumor has it that Roger Coreman was originally going to make the movie "Disco High" but was luckily talked into changing gears to the new music on the scene.

Interesting tidbit I found while doing preliminary research: PJ Soles and Mary Woronov would again star in the same movie from 2005 known as the Devil's Rejects!
Edited to Add: OMG I can't believe I didn't know there was a sequel to this movie (1991) starring none other than Corey Feldman, master of 80s bad teen movies, as one of the main characters. Mary Woronov is the Principal yet again minus a hand but she has a claw and whip attachment! Going to have to watch and review this one too as it sounds like a classic bad movie sequel.
Who did they play?
I haven't seen The Devil's Rejects but from what I read, Mary played the Waitress (who gets killed for her car) and PJ Soles played "Susan."
