Last night I received my certificate of rank as a third degree black belt in Uechi-Ryu Okinawan karate! I've studied the style since 1981, off and on, but it was cool to finally get this rank, as I tested for it over a year ago. I'm 44 now - I would love to get my 5th degree around the time I turn 50, but I haven't been able to work out much lately . . . .

That's me on the right.

I like the look of our new certificates!!
Very cool! But at what degree do they teach you Mad Monkey style? And when do you learn to master the Flying Guillotine?
Congrats!

At the moment, all I know is Irritated Monkey, but I do have a Flying Guillotine license registered with the FAA . . . . . :bouncegiggle:
All right Indiana! I will be very, very nice to you from now on :teddyr:
Wait, you have a moustache??? I didn't see that coming :bouncegiggle:.
Congrats though.

Way to go! The only martial arts move I ever learned was from The Dick Van Dyke Show. I used it on my brother once, and was able to take him down even though he was quite a bit larger than me. So I'm undefeated in my martial arts career. Still, I bow to you, O Great One. Congrats!
That's really cool! Congratulations to you.
My niece used to study Okinawan when she was younger but then my sister moved and she stopped doing it...I used to like to see her at events and such.
That's great! I hope to be testing for shodan in Aikido at the end of this month, in front of my sensei & his sensei {insert nervous emoticon}.
And considering that I've never been all that athletic - last one picked for the team - it's been an amazing journey just to get to this point.
Congrats! Karate and other martial arts are great, because they do teach self-mastery, and they are more than just physical disciplines.
Congradulations! Out of curiousity did they show this style on Human Weapon?
Great accompilishment. I have a green in Shotokan, and some noodling around with aikido and mui thai, but not enough to even be competent. But it is enough to know you have done something significant there. You should be proud.
