I've often wondered if I'm the oldest fogey here, I'd like to get an idea of the age range on this forum, so I've set up this poll in 10 year increments. I've never really cared one way or the other about my age, it's just a number to me. I still feel like I did when I was 18 - 20 or so, still do most of the same things, its just that now I'm sometimes sore the next day. I am 56 years old, born in 1952, Harry Truman was President, no one owned a TV and having a phone in the house was a luxury, and when we finally got one it was a large black thing with a rotary dial. Now we have a 46" flat screen hi-def TV, Netflix, cable, a wireless phone with extension in the den and both my wife and I carry cellphones. The world has changed a lot in 56 years. 

I am 44 and still act like a teenager as much as I can, much to the annoyance of my longsuffering spouse!  Just tonight she informed me that I probably should not belch the word "YORP" at the top of my lungs while my daughter is recording her homework on casette for her science teacher.  Odd woman.

Are we talking mental or physical age? I'm 44, but my wife says I act about 14. (I don't think that is a compliment.)

I turned 33 back on March 7th.

16 right here, and you'll all be happy to know, I find rap to sound worse than a screaming banshee so I have that going for me.  Mentally though it depends.  I'm sometimes five, twenty, or eighty.  It's kind of wierd and hard to explain, I try to act my age but my mind is all over the place.  All messed up.

39 here.

My wife also tells me that I act like a kid all too often.

It is because you are 16, it will stay that way until you are in you early 20's and it will begin to tapper off up to about 30.
At 30 you start getting more serious ... time to stop playing around and start working (really working) seriously thinking about the future. You realize you're not going to save the world so you forge ahead without it. At 40 you're getting set in your ways and have little time for stupidity and likely you're raising a family thinking about college for the kids, retirement, investments, etc. etc. Can't say what 50 and beyond holds not there yet.

Yeah, but sometimes I am thinking about an amazing future, then I'm coming down to reality and a low level job that I am genetically designed for, then I think "wouldn't it be wonderful if it turned out I was Aquaman."  See, I warned you I was insane.

I'm 42 now but I don't feel it and I've been told I don't look it either   :cheers:

I think I'm pretty serious generally, but I have a nutty sense of humour which I don't show until I get to know someone.  I'm pretty secretive as well.  I don't tell people much, even if I've know them for a long time.  I've been fighting turning into a Grumpy Old Woman, but the pull is very strong!

45. I'm 5'2",up to 140pounds,amd my front tooth on top fell out about six months ago. Before that ,I lost a tooth just to the left of it on the bottom.So now when I grin,I scare little kids more than usual. I look like a human jacko lantern.
Once a little kid pointed at me and said-"Look mom-he's a widget !"(?). So I stared at him cross-eyed and gave him a big evil toothless grin. Made him jump.  :bouncegiggle:

If I don't think about it...I find myself assuming I am still 28.  Used to be I 'thought' I was 24, so I guess I am at least on some level acknowledging the passage of time.

I am around kids a lot - my own range in age from 18 to 10 - and I can out-goofy the best of them.  The rest of the time, I am very reserved and can appear (so I am told) overly serious and even intimidating.  Not intentionally; although 'curmudgeon' is mode that is looking easier and easier to slip into from here.

It's pretty interesting that this board skews older. No offense of course, I'm a few months away from picking a higher age bracket (29, turning 30 in August).

I think it may be the reason I've always came back to this board. One, the civility is non-paralleled, which may have a lot to do with the fact that once you get a bit older you stop tending to think your movie choices are the be-all-end-all of movie taste. That's always a factor when you're dealing with obsessive movie nerds, and if you watch the movies we watch, yes, you are an obsessive movie nerd. Two, the sheer breadth of movie knowledge. What we have here is six decades of actual movie watching when it happened. It's not like going back and watching movies several decades old, almost any movie discussed here was literally watched by somebody when it came out, and it was watched in the prime of movie-watching life. That is, the crazed twelve-year-old who was scared out of their mind by what any other person would consider ridiculous.

I still think this board is the greatest repository of knowledge for movies that nobody else cares about. Nobody will ever be able to teach a class that approaches the level of knowledge displayed on this board.

Of course, you are all movie masochists, like I am. Nobody else even wants to watch these movies. We're the last bastion of history, folks! For posterity!

According to the poll 60.6% of the members are between the ages of 30 and 49, but since there are 1290 members and only 33 responded I kind of think the data may be skewed.
I believe that your are as young as you feel and while I may grow older I refuse to grow up.

My brother Richie was very much into Zen phiosophy. He asked me what the sound of one hand clapping was. I told them there was none...it took two hands to clap...as in it takes both the yin and yang to make a whole. One dosen't exist without the other. It takes both to BE.

Many years ago, when I was on the road as a photographer, while shooting a church directory I met a woman who was 90. Being that she was in quite good health, I presumed for her age, and very cognizant, I had remarked something along the lines of having to come back when she was 100.

She had politely remarked that she had hoped not. She had lived a long life, long enough, and had commented that she was tired. Any day was fine with her.
