I'm not going to list them all, there are far to many films good and bad to list. But if you're a TROMA fan what would be your top films? If you do not know what TROMA films are, then there is just no hope for you.
Here is the list of all TROMA movies ...
http://www.troma.com/movies/ (http://www.troma.com/movies/)
Since I haven't seen them all I can only judge based on what I've seen, so ...
1. The Toxic Avenger
2. Class Of Nuke 'em High
3. Tromeo And Juliet
4. Cannibal! The Musical
5. Terror Firmer
6. Troma's War
7. Combat Shock
8. Unspeakable
9. Killer Condom
10.Waitress!
Honorable mention ...
Bloodsucking Freaks
Surf Nazis Must Die!
Oh BTW there is a new one coming out that look promising.
POULTRYGEIST - Night of the Chicken Dead
more about that here
http://www.poultrygeistmovie.com/ (http://www.poultrygeistmovie.com/)
There are more but I don't want to hog the entire list ...
So what's your top TROMA films?
(Free Karma to all that post in this thread ... psyche!)
Poultrygeist is indeed one of their better efforts. It actually have some funny jokes, and not just making fun of it's complete cheapness which is what too many Troma's rely on.
It's right at the top of my favorite Troma films, only behind Toxic Avenger.
I'm quite looking forward to Poultrygeist myself. Seems to be taking forever to come out though.
I'm also (possibly) in the minority here, but I loved Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part 4. Found it downright hilarious.
Other favorites would include Terror Firmer and The Toxic Avenger. Honestly, there's a whole slew, but these ones I can watch over and over.
I'm not at all knowledgable about TROMA but they rereleased one of my favorite Indonesian action movies "the Stabilizer"
Being my age my b-movie resources are kind of limited, all I have to get to these films are late night T.V. On Demand cable and the $5-$7 movies at Wal-Mart, so I actually haven't seen anything by Troma, but Poultrygeist looks delightful, that trailer does forget to mention the main character lesbian ex-girlfriend, :bouncegiggle:.
I'm not a big fan of the Troma produced films I've seen (like the CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH sequels). Too silly, too many fart jokes, too self aware; I wish they's put that inventiveness to use in a straightforward B-movie that didn't mock itself.
I guess my favorite was TEENAGE CATGIRLS IN HEAT (!)
The movies that the just distribute but don't produce are a better lot. I'd go with BLOODSUCKING FREAKS in that category.

I agree I not big on fart jokes I think they are rather childish and scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

I disagree, a well placed fart joke can actually be quite the jest.

Man, I'm so mad I missed that when it was here in Alaska. I can not believe of all the weekends to get sick. . .
Anyways, I like Terror Firmer and Sgt Kabukiman most.
I'm still a fan of the earlier Troma stuff and agree with the mentions that their sequels took a big hit in entertainment value, especially when they just tried to be too "self aware" and ruined the point of Troma flicks.
In no particular order:
Poultrygeist (shameless plug: you can check out my review for it here (http://www.tombofanubis.com/Reviews/A/Poultrygeist.html))
Tromeo & Juliet
Toxic Avenger
Sgt. Kabukiman
Class of Nuke 'Em High
Cannibal! the Musical
and the flicks I wanted to like but just couldn't:
Surf Nazis Must Die!
Troma's War
the Toxic Avenger sequels
No one has mentioned my favorite Troma movie - Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0083934/)
It sounds like a porno, but it could be one of the funniest re-dubs ever made.

It took me forever to track this one down, sadly I don't think it's available on DVD yet. I look forward to when I finally have the time to sit down and watch it though...

I'll be damned! Well, I'm pretty much damned anyway, but thanks Cheeze! I remember looking for this a few months ago and I had to settle for a used VHS because I couldn't find it anywhere... :buggedout:
Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town, mostly because it was my introduction into Troma
Surf Nazis Must Die
Terror Firmer
Buttcrack
Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD
My favorite Troma Films:
The Toxic Avenger
Class of Nuke'em High
Redneck Zombies
The Toxic Avenger Part II
Ones that I enjoyed but not my favorites:
Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D
Troma's War (It was ok, but it's a tad overrated)
Ones I didn't like:
The Toxic Avenger Part III
The Toxic Avenger Part IV (I finished it, but just could not get into it at all)
Class of Nuke'em High 2 (Only watched about 30 minutes of it, then sent the DVD back to Netflix.)
I gotta add Cannibal! The Musical to my list.
My favorite sequence is possibly this, where they encounter "Indians." Ha. I also love it about 5 minutes later when the Trappers sing their song, and get in an argument over how their supposed to sing it.

TROMA films can be kind of hit or miss these last few years, but how can you not love the classics like THE TOXIC AVENGER? Another one I haven't seen mentioned here was PTERDACTYL WOMAN FROM BEVERLY HILLS. On the other hand, MEATWEED MADNESS was downright awful. I am anxiously awaiting the DVD release of POULTRYGEIST.
My favorite Troma movies were the sex comedies of the early '80s...Stuck on You and The First Turn-On. Proud to say I saw both at the movies. Classicks.
Class Of Nuke 'Em High is my all-time favourite Troma film and I think it's the best one they ever made.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5QNFhlF9Gs
The Toxic Avenger, Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell - these are the only ones I've seen aside from St. Kabukiman which I didn't care for at all.
How could I forget Squeeze Play (1983)?
So then, what's the best you've seen, what's the worst you've seen and what would you recommend to others.
A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell is utter rubbish but it has the best DVD commentary ever.
I don't know whether to buy Poultygeist or The Toxic Avenger
I've seen a couple of the Toxic Avenger movies-and something with Humanoids in the title. (Only other thing I can remember about the movie is that the humanoids had mouths on their stomaches instead of belly-buttons.)
Their the deffinition of "guilty pleasure" movies.
My favourites are; The "Toxic Avenger" (hate the sequels), "Class Of Nuke 'Em High" (hate the sequels) and "Troma's War". I'd also recommend Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD.
The thing I don't like is when most of the "films" are just a lot a random scenes with no story and just eveyone goofing off. Ya' know when we're watching a film of the Troma crew making a new Troma movie.......

Have you seen Citizen Toxie ?
I heard it's quite good.
I hated Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD.
And I was so shocked by Terror Firmer that I still haven't been able to come up with an opinion. Which is saying a lot as I saw it 6 years ago !

Yes, an it was awful. I hated it.
The only reason I made it through parts 2 & 3 was because of Phoebe Legere and the kick ass theme song!
The 'best' Troma flick, in my opinion would be The Toxic Avenger. Worst, hmm. Not sure. I'll throw
Rabid Grannies out there. Or was that just distributed by them? Are we counting movies Troma produced, or can we count a distributed flick as a "Troma" flick? Cause if we're talking distributed flicks, then
Cannibal! The Musical is their best flick.

Citizen Toxie may not have been great, but it was a hell of a lot better than the god awful parts 2 and 3.

I liked
Terror Firmer. Can't say it's a film I'd recommend to people unless I know they're into that type of stuff, but for what it was, I enjoyed it. In fact, I love the "Oh my god, he's got an afro!" quote.

Trying to think of that movie. It wouldn't be
Class of Nuke Em High 2: Subhumanoid Meltdown would it?
Toxic Avenger is probably the best film they've made.
Another Troma film I thought was actually very funny was Poultrygeist. Probably the grossest movie I've ever seen (way worse than other Troma films, even something like Terror Firmer), but it's genuinely funny. Definitely worth a watch.
I haven't seen a Troma film in years. Mostly because we no longer have to mom and pop rental places around anymore and the chain stores don't carry them. I think the last Troma film I got to see was Class of Nuke Em High 2: Subhumanoid Meltdown.
Kicking it to the first page
Side note, I merged this topic with "Let's Talk Troma".
Another side note, I don't watch Troma much because their films in the past 10 years simply look like they don't give a crap about what their filming so why should I. I do appreciate them bringing stuff like Time Barbarians to DVD. :teddyr: For the classic stuff, Toxie was good and I actually kind of liked Toxie 2. Class Of Nukem High was fun too.
In the 6 months since this thread was started, I learned:
1) That Poultrygiest is one of my favorite Troma movies
2) Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters is pretty darn entertaining, I love the Crackhead Cobra
3) Troma's War was good, but not great IMO
4) Terror Firmer is a close second
Chopper Chicks In Zombietown!! Oh damn, how did I forget that one!
I love that film. After "Class Of Nuke 'Em High" it's my fave. :teddyr:
I've only seen a handful of Troma films...but hands down is TROMA'S WAR!!!
If I had to recommend "Poultrygeist" or "The Toxic Avenger" to somebody, I would definitely suggest "The Toxic Avenger." Poultrygeist has its good points, but I think they were trying to go too overboard with the Troma style when they made it. Believe it or not, lots of references to a corpse's dessicated finger being shoved into somebody's butt does get to be a bit too much for me.
Check out Tromeo and Juliet (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/tromeo/) if you haven't seen it before. Twisted, twisted version of that story.
Toxic Avenger would be my pick.
Incidentally, a friend's girlfriend got to watch clips from Tromeo and Juliet in her Shakespeare class last semester.

I dunno, Andrew. It's very gross, and went overboard at times... But it was, for me at least, the most genuinely entertaining Troma-made film in quite a while. I think the film that actually goes the MOST overboard with Troma-style is Toxic Avenger 4 (just in the way the gags are employed, not the level of nastiness and grossness on display). Has its moments, but it's not nearly as funny as Poultrygeist. It also can't help but be a letdown in comparison to the original.
Kaufman likes to brag that the budgets of Citizen Toxie and the original film are the same, but of course, the original was made over 20 years earlier, meaning its budget is effectively perhaps three times as much. It might be worth bragging about, except that Citizen Toxie's cheapness shows too much. I realize that's part of the style, but I miss the genuinely effective makeup for Toxie in the original film, especially compared to the POS mask used in the sequels. Similarly, scenes of gunfire are done ultra-cheaply, and the editing has to hide a lot of crap - it really does hurt the film at times. Whatever though...
One thing we all seem to agree on is that The Toxic Avenger is their best film. It's also probably the only Troma film I'd suggest anyone besides people like us board regulars would like at all.
One final note... Lloyd Kaufman's book on film making is actually very funny and has some quite good information and advice on it. It's hardly a book to be studied deeply, but there's good stuff in it, and lots of good anecdotes if you like Troma. Probably the most mind boggling thing I found out is that all of Kaufman's films are shot on 35MM still, and that his films have huge shooting ratios. On the order 10:1 (meaning for a two hour movie, they'd shoot 20 hours, at least, of footage). Keep in mind his films budgets top out in the 500k range, and development and telecine of an hour of 35MM film is in the $10,000 range. End result is half the budget (and, apparently, even higher than that for Poultrygeist) is spent on film costs.
It's fine if he wants to stick with film, but if he wants his budgets to stay in that range, I think he should switch to 16MM film, which has like 1/10th the development and telecine cost. It'd be like his films suddenly got 1/3 bigger budgets, which would help them out, especially with all the budget and production problems Poultrygeist apparently had (with Kaufman having to put his own money into the film to get it done).

Having just seen it, after avoiding Troma for years, I'd second this recommendation. I think the Troma formula has a ceiling as to how effective the films can be, and this bumps right up against it.
I haven't seen THE TOXIC AVENGER, though. (Maybe I need to go post that on the "OMG! You've Never seen..." thread and accept my spanking).
Come to think of it, I did kind of like Terror Firmer. It was Troma pretty much making fun of itself which I can appreciate.
