Question:
well do you
Option 1: yes i get very bad feed back from it
Option 2: no everyone likes it or dosnt care
Option 3: i dont tell anyone
its a yes for me my friends refer to them as my crappy movies ive got no friends who will
watch with me and ive asked people if they have scene a movie they say no to all of
mine. i wish the world liked b movies more :bluesad:
I have a number of friends who's tastes intersect mine at various points
I get called "nerd" now and then, but most of them stare at me in bewilderement when they learn about the vile and exotic movies I watch for fun.
My family is rather confused at my enjoyment, but my brother is not a fan of this section of my personality. However I don't mention it to most people outside my home.
I didn't have any trouble with it in high school, because my entire circle of friends got into bad movies at the same time I did. We did the geek thing and every couple of months we'd gather in someone's basement and watch movies for an entire weekend until everyone eventually fell asleep. The first one down was naturally the one who would get f**ked with the worse. I only wish I could find all the pictures we took during those things...
Nowadays, if I meet someone new, it's usually through the bad movie connection. If not, then the other people I associate with are more often than not open minded enough that they can understand why I love the crap I love. :teddyr:
No I don't get ridiculed. I know lots of people who don't get it, but they don't give me s**t for what I like. In fact, truth be told, I'm more likely to ridicule THEM for the crappy popular movies they like! Those who know me do not expect me to like anything "normal." It's seems stupid to me that some people on here seem to let their "friends" call them "nerds" or "geeks" for liking B-movies. The real nerds and geeks are the people going to see Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Sex in the City, King Kong remakes, or any new remakes for that matter, and all the other lame movies that the masses of asses enjoy. THEY are the nerds, and if they give you s**t, you need to get a backbone and call them on it!

well said ghoul
One of my friends thinks that I'm dumb for watching movies because they're bad, but all my other friends occasionally sit down, and watch bad movies with me.
I catch very little flak over my movies, again, usually the other way around. I often give my friends crap for liking mainstream, boring crap.
I've been told my taste in movies is a bit odd, and our receptionist at work has told me I'm weird several times, but most of my friends tolerate my interest in "B" movies. I'm fortunate to be married to a very understanding woman who is even willing to watch along with me on occasion. After all the films she's watched with me I'd have to say that she's almost a fan, she still calls them "class Z movies" though.
I actually get ridiculed more for playing video games.
My family accepts my movie tastes because they've learned better than to watch them with me, though sometimes boredom or curiosity will find them viewing one or two of them. I'm probably the easiest person to gift during the holidays :bouncegiggle: The general word from people I know is "that's cool, seen this one?" and that there are good bad movies and bad bad movies, something that's fun to discuss. Even teasing is all in fun so I'd say folks accept or don't particularly care with me.
When I tell people I'm into low budget, cheesy stuff, I don't even think they know what the hell I'm talking about, so the subject usually changes pretty quick.
I agree with everybody else, the people who just mindlessly shuffle into the theater to sit through whatever is being fed to them are the ones who've got something to be ashamed of.
I sometimes get ridiculed by my friends, but I don't care, it's nothing serious. Nobody calls me a nerd or something, at least not after I tell them about the movies I watch, it's just "manly jestery" (I ridicule them as much as they ridicule me, status quo.)
One of my friends tried to boost her ego by telling me how violent movies Saw-series includes and how much she enjoys violent movies and how they are a million times more violent than anything I have ever seen.
I listened to her for a while and told her about Cannibal Holocaust and other such films.
Never tried to boost her ego again. :bouncegiggle:
At my house, there are "Daddy's movies" and "Family movies." My wife and daughter do not share my tastes, and they won't watch my kind of movies, but they don't actually ridicule me for them. One friend I work with is starting to get into some of the stuff I watch--I loaned him Shakes the Clown and For Y'ur Height Only, and he really enjoyed them; I haven't decided what to loan him next. He brought me the Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse movies and 300, which he considers "out there" (not so much 300, but the others). I'm showing him what "out there" really means (http://www.websmileys.com/sm/evil/105.gif), slowly but surely.
I won't say 'ridiculed' as such, but no one believes me that my favourite movie of all time is Steve Carver's An Eye For An Eye with Chuck Norris and Christopher Lee. Not even Mr Norris' webmaster does, but it is my favourite film.
As the only male child in the family, with four older sisters, and the only one who's tastes ran toward the the fantastic, I endured a lot of crap from my siblings for my choice of movies, TV shows, books, etc. I even heard one sister talking to another about me and she described me as "out there." Mom and Dad never seem bothered by my tastes. Hell, my dad loves a lot of the same stuff and mom regularly watched Star Trek with me. Most of the grief I took was from my sisters, who convinced themselves that I was some sort of introverted, socially inept shut-in that would spend my life living at home and dependent on others. Once I made up my mind to ignore them, anybody else's negative comments went in one ear and out the other.
However, despite my love for "bad" movies and trash cinema, I don't subscribe to the idea that I must therefore shun mainstream cinema and ridicule those who like such things. Wouldn't that make me as bad as those who would ridicule me for my love of Godzilla flicks? It seems like it has become fashionable to bash Hollywood and anything that they produce. Sure, I agree that the big studios are creatively bankrupt and studio execs haven't a clue at times on how to make a good movie, but that doesn't mean they don't get it right on occasion. It just seems to me that there is often an elitist attitude among bad movie fans who think they are more enlightened because they don't care for Hollywood fare.

like that"? in a very sad tone after i told her about the animals of course i was talking about
it to a crazy kid at the same time. by crazy i mean likes some of the movies i watch
Ridiculed? No, but I do often hear from people, "I cannot understand how you can watch those movies." My children see my DVDs and refer to them as "Daddy's silly movies" (but they do beg to watch the monster flicks). On the other hand, I have awed a number of friends and associates, and Marines, over the years. The time a crowd of Marines watched The Crippled Masters (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/cripmasters/) was almost a legend, and we saw a couple of dance fights after a screening of Breakin' (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/breakin/). After Todd's birthday party I had everyone staring at the TV while the "Champions of Justice" was on.
This is on a plaque that one of my past units gave me when I transferred:

Your dedication and untiring efforts will never be forgotten. However, your movie recommendations may be.
All of my close friends also enjoy weird films, though their wives usually roll their eyes. Katie likes some of them (she hates Italian zombie movies), and one of her friends, also a Katie, loves movies with midgets in them - we gave her a copy of The Terror of Tiny Town (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/tinytown/) as a present some time back.
I still take heat for the time I whipped out Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo during an uppity party at my house. Nobody was around by the time the movie was over. I contend it was just a coincidence but my wife says otherwise.

I agree with you, , but more than once have I sat through some crap with a large group of people (the first Austin Powers is one), and NOBODY laughed one bit, it was just so mind-numbingly dull, , yet, , when it was all over, , they talked about how great it was, but couldn't make a single point, or point out a single scene to back their point up. I sat through the whole movie half paying attention, half watching the crowd. I got the feeling there was a subliminal message making people suggest it to others.
I get the feeling some movies suck, and people talk them up because it's the cool thing to do (Napolean Dynamite), rather than be honest.
My wife and kids accepted my tv and movie choices a long time ago. Some of my friend and coworkers stare at me in amazement when I tell the travails of having view something several times before getting all the way through it.
You have to admit there's some kind of wiring amiss in our brains that causes us to torture ourselves with some of the schlock we watch.
Growing up my mother used to lay into my brother and father for letting me watch horror films. When I got into my late teens she still lamented over some of the culture I was taking in. Still, I never was in trouble with the law and lived a pretty clean lifestyle so she couldn't complain.
Nowadays my wife just accepts my nerdiness and always has. From the awful movies to the collection of toys based on the movies. She may make comments like "what the hell is this sh*t you're watching" but I usually remind her she likes awful romantic comedies starring the likes of Jennifer Aniston.
I am blessed in this regard --
Not only does my wife love things we can laugh at together -- eg: The entire Ed Wood catalogue -- but is willing to sit through painful stuff as well ("Starcrash!!" -- though she did howl at the brass torpedo men!).
Some of my nerd and theatre friends are even worse than me -- I agree with not being able to sit through Italian Zombie movies, and my biking buddy lives on them -- I never would have known of "Pumaman!"(See it!~SEE IT!! if you haven't already -- you cannot believe how awful this thing is!!) had I not been in a play with this other guy, who also showed me "Leeches!".
On the topic of Katie's midgets: "In Bruges" is out this week on DVD -- maybe today. The whole business of liking midget entertainment as a focus is explored exhaustively in this film.

I have to admit, I'm a little surprised by some of the responses to this thread.
I find that when people see my DVD collection, or just find out about my taste in movies, that they're fascinated. It's strange, exciting, and unheard of to most people. "You watch bad movies? Tell me about it!" I get asked question after question about what's the worst movie I've ever seen, what some of the more "creative" titles contain (ie. The Giant Gila Monster, Blood Feast, etc), and if I'm willing to watch one or lend one out. It's a hobby that seems to really catch peoples interest, because pretty much everyone watches movies, but B-movies are a thing that few people have a lot of experience with but can still relate to easily.
Last night me and a friend got in a small fight because I wanted to watch FORBIDDEN ZONE and he wanted to watch anything BUT that. Also, a different friend is always making fun of me for my taste for b-movies. But then, he likes JUNO, so he's already lost credibility for his opinion on movies.
I voted "no", but there was one time when some friends and I watched I Spit On Your Grave, and one of my friends couldn't stop lauging throughout the entire movie (apparently, he's into Jet Li type stuff). After it was over, he was like, "do you have any other movies that is so bad they're funny"? I mean, funny is the absolute LAST thing I'd ever call I Spit On Your Grave. I guess because it was a low budgeter with no name actors is why he'd call it "bad".
Never been made fun of. My famliy actually got me into B-movies and my friends are all pretty alternative to the mainstream crap so everythings all good.
Darksider, im gonna go ahead and boost yer karma for your super-rad avatar. "LOOK! ROAD MAPS!!"
Most people make fun of it, but hell, I like them, so whatever.

Sounds like you're as fashionable as anyone else here :teddyr: I haven't heard anyone say that they never, EVER make a good movie. Call it shunning mainstream cinema, or just learning through vast amounts of experience that it's completely uninteresting to you, same thing.
I ridicule people who just do whatever everyone else does, whether it be movies, TV shows, music, etc. They're extremely boring. Variety and uniqueness are the spice of life, and those people basically don't have any. "Yeah, we went to this movie, you know, the one everyone else has seen? And our opinion of it was, well, about the same as everyone else's. Afterwards we went out to that place, you know, where everyone goes? And talked about the things everyone talks about." Blah blah blah.
Nope, not anymore really. My ex used to, but that's part of why she's my ex.
Now, three of the six guys I live with (suite arrangement on campus) are B-movie nuts like myself, and we've got plans for a weekly B-movie screening once school resumes session in August. We've even designed a B-movie drinking game, though we haven't fully agreed on a name (I favor "The Astounding Beer Monster", though "It Came from the Liquor Cabinet" is more popular and "Plan 9 for Utter S**tface" was quickly dismissed).
My girlfriend's even taken to saying "Progress" in a deadpan voice after every sentence since watching The Beast of Yucca Flats with me.
Come to think of it, the only person who ridicules my taste in cinema is one of the other three guys I live with, and he ridicules any movie or TV show that isn't "Naruto", "Kingdom of Heaven" or "Lord of the Rings." We'll be watching something and he'll walk in and start talking over the movie, telling us what garbage it is and how we should be watching Naruto, and then we throw shoes at him until he leaves.

naruto and lord of the rings sucks dont know about kingdom of heaven
but peater jackson should of stayed in films like bad taste and dead alive
Hence why we throw shoes at him. This coming semester we may not take the shoes off our feet before assaulting him with them.
I really couldn't vote because I didn't see a close enough ballot. Yes, some of my friend do some good natured ribbing on me becasue I like bad movies. But they've also enjoyed some of the bad movies I've shown them like Wild World of Batwoman and Skydivers.
Even if I was teased more, I' not sure it would bother me that much. I kind of like being into something not a lot of other people are into. Not that there arn't bad movie fans-we're just not mainstream.
Most of the folks I know will look at my collection and glaze over, and I'll offer them a little movie crack, nothing to strong at first maybe a classic B movie something common. Then when I can see there getting hooked I'll show them the good stuff, the real B movies like Toxic Avenger or some of the Something Weird collection then their hooked, they're a junky ... a few have ended up in rehab unable to handle it.
I've only had one friend give me crap about watching bad movies, which he has never said anything since the day I saw him checking out of the video store with a couple of chick flicks ... girlie man.
hey! its my first topic sweet!
I don't because nobody has any clue about any of the films I own, even the mainstream 80s ones....and that's somewhat sad, yes very sad indeed :bluesad:
It used to really perplex my friends as I could watch a Kurosawa or Kubrick movie and then turn right around and pop in Black Dragon Fever or Megaforce and enjoy them the same amount in different ways of course.
Now, they've just gotten desensitized to how broad my cinematic tastes are (and music for that matter as well) and just roll with it.
No. Iv'e lived in Lawton most my life. No one is shocked by or surprised by anything about me anymore...except how much more conservative I am as I get older...or the fact that I'm still alive. Besides....if someone did say something....I couldn't care less. As Doris Day (or Doris Wishman?) would say.... say sirhan, sirhan!".
Most people just think it's funny that I like these movies, but I don't get much ridicule. Although, sometimes my wife will see a guy in a rubber monster suit on the TV screen and just say, "Great," in a sarcastic tone as she walks by.

That's the response I sometimes get.
But every now and then, I'll run into someone else who loves B-movies and trash cinema and we'll get a long conversation going.
I'll tell them about this site and my interview with George Hardy (the father from Troll 2) and they think it's the coolest thing.
One thing I noticed is the unusual amount of women who love bad movies. (There's usually twice as many B-movie loving guys than there are girls)
I met this girl recently through a friend of a friend and when I mentioned bad movies, she started rattling off her favorite Troma, zombie and horror films.
Yeah...she was cool.
My wife doesn't get it much at all. Not to the "Will become my ex over it", but she'd rather watch people dying of cancer or the deep analysis of the mother-daughter relationship. I want rubber monsters breaking stuff, or laser beams.
