Man, oh man, what a huge huge loss. Talk about a giant of the industry. I didn't even know that he was ill with multiple myeloma which was what brought about his death.
AICN has a really cool article with pics from throughout his legendary career.

My thoughts go out to Stan's friends and family during this trying time. R.I.P. Stan. You will be missed!

Farewell to a master of movie magic.
Wow, major bummer.
RIP, Stan. Thanks for the visuals.
Wow. Did not see that coming.
Damn it, this is a major loss for the fans and the industry alike! Stan Winston was a modern day Harryhausen, and today's sci-fi and horror movies wouldn't have been the same without him. Hopefully the men and women who worked for him will carry on the legacy.
:bluesad: Goodbye, Stan.
s**tty.
Here's an update from AICN where Harry posted a letter from James Cameron about Stan Winston's passing.

damn... I was just talking to my dad about how much yesterday's creature effects were better than today's... Well they're certainly not going to be the same anymore :bluesad: For those who don't know, Winston is most known for the creation of the Predator and Pumpkinhead, outstanding monsters.
Wow..... :bluesad: I'll miss you Stan. Godspeed and thank you for giving us mere mortals some of the most memorable effects scenes (and movie monsters) of all time.
Wherever he is, I hope he knows how much joy he brought into monster lovers' lives.
Farewell to one of the last non-CGI special effects wizards... :bluesad:
That's a bummer. One of the true masters of the craft.

AICN has updated their Stan Winston tribute page with thoughts from Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Frank Darabont, Joe Dante, Rick Baker, Fred Dekker, John Rosengart, and his nephew Josh Cagun.
I can't even put into words how sad I am about this. It's just depressing. You just knew when you saw the guys name on a film that the effects were gonna be amazing. He is right up there with Harryhausen and Tsubaraya. One of the spfx Gods of cinema history!! :bluesad:
Crap. And only 62. One of the finest, we should send him off with a sip of cheap champagne through a Gargoyles mask.
I saw that story and other day and was like WHAT? He was still fairly young what the hell happened.
Thanks Stan, thanks for everything ... the movies and many will miss you.
I remember thinking that he had the coolest job ever.
R.I.P. Stan
Do you think any of those toys that were based on his designs will go up in value now that he's passed on?
(I have a whole bunch of Stan Winston Workshop figures)
