Title: A Sound of Thunder
Post by: Kester Pelagius on June 22, 2008, 09:38:35 AM
Did anyone catch sciffy's Saturday night premiere movie,  A Sound of Thunder (http://cosmic-cinema.blogspot.com/2008/06/sound-of-thunder.html)?  (Based on a story by Ray Bradbury no less.)

O-M-G never has there been a movie ruined by CGI in quite the same way.  Granted there's a lot of other problems, not the least being this is a time travel movie, but the CGI. . . GAH!

Of course the fact this movie was originally made circa 2005 and the first I heard about it was when sciffy started airing promos should have clued me in.  But it had Ben Kingsley in it.  I mean how can you go wrong with a movie that has Sir Ben Kingsley in it?

A Sound of Thunder (http://cosmic-cinema.blogspot.com/2008/06/sound-of-thunder.html), that's how.

Please tell me I did not suffer through this alone!  :buggedout:

I suffered through the first 12 minutes of it  :teddyr:  When the raging holier-than-thou woman came in and sprayed everyone with blood, that channel got changed in about 3/10ths of a millisecond.

I have the DVD of this garbage, bought it at a video store sidewalk sale. I think they were using it to keep a table from wobbling.

I didn't watch it Sat, as I have it and it's in the get rid of pile.

Watched parts of it... looked like cliche-by-numbers...

Ben Kingsley reminds of John Rhys Davies...good actor who has appeared in some great stuff..but will do just about anything and so therefore shows up in some pretty bad stuff...

I think I found this DVD in the Walmart cheapie bin sometime last year. I really didn't think the movie was that bad. Not great, mind you, but not as terrible as the Z-grade stuff produced specifically for the Sci-Fi channel.

Heads up everyone ASOT is playing again at 7 PM (EST) tonight!  Don't miss your chance to see the incredible mixed up CGI baboon raptors and giant batheaded pterodons!!!!

But, wait, it gets better.  In the 9 PM sciffy movie time slot is Asylum's 100 MILLION B.C. mockbuster, which sounds like it has a similar premise in reverse.  (This time they physically bring something back with them from the past.)  Sounds like a very strange night tonight on sciffy so fire up your DVRs!

Ben Kingsley was in Bloodrayne.  Doesn't that lower his ranking as an actor because of Uwe Boll taint?

Don't forget about his stellar turn in Thunderbirds.

I saw this one on cable, Showtime I think, I liked it, the story was as good as any of the time travel paradox stories I've seen, the acting was good and the effects, while not great were okay. After a trying day at work, which was what I had, this movie was one I found I could relax and enjoy as a goofy, stupid movie that required no thinking on my part. While I wouldn't rate this one as a great must see and have film, I don't think it's as bad as most people say, I think it's a pretty good movie.

I actually enjoyed A Sound of Thunder; my ability to suspend belief for CGI's sake goes a very long way  :teddyr: (except in the case of whatever that Scifi movie with alien lizards in Hawaii was called) and I just found it pretty damn entertaining. If I can sit down to a movie and have fun watching it, that really helps. Sure, it wasn't golden material, but then they rarely are, right  ?

This movie is so laughable because of the CG.  Putting it aside, it's actually not a half bad film.  It's a shame, because I really would like to see someone do a movie like this with the same actors and less laughable CG.

On the whole, it's a fun movie to watch.  Plenty of kitsch and fun moments, not to mention some creativity behind it.  I still loved the velociboons, or whatever the hell they were.

A pretty forgettable film. I think they hired the actors they wanted but then realized they payed to much and had no money left for CGI, sets, script, director, costumes etc. The story and ideas are actually quite interesting and would seem to be a good idea for a cinema.

The episode from The Ray Bradbury Theater is way better than this movie, but I still find the film has an odd charm.
