Title: MANIAC COP
Post by: KYGOTC on June 29, 2008, 11:53:32 PM
I saw this one today on the ol' netflix website. I didnt even know Bruce Campell was in this one until I watched it. He does a great job, as ussual.

ANYWAY, this one was pretty decent. The only problem was a bunch of killings happened in the very beggining, and then nothing really happened until the last half hour of the movie, but it was worth it. Good gore effects, and nice 80s cheeziness.

I hear there a 2 sequels to this one, but I heard they both got hit with some heavy censorship, so they go to the bottom of my to-watch-list along with "My Bloody Valentine" and "Friday the 13th part 7".

I have to agree with the others about My Bloody Valentine; I don't know why you would have it at the bottom of your list. I haven't seen MC2, so I can't comment on that.

From what I remember, Maniac Cop 2 was actually pretty decent.  I'll have to give that one another viewing.

Both Maniac Cop 1 & 2 are fun movies.

I would recommend staying very far away from part 3 however. He kills a guy with an x-ray machine in that one!

I enjoyed MANIAC COP 2 MUCH more than the first. Bruce gets killed early in the proceedings, but acne-scarred Robert Davi takes over as a detective hunting down Cordell-who's real ugly this time 'round. And Leo Rossi is GREAT as a serial killer who acts  like Charlie Manson. Lots more slam-bang action in this one! It also has Claudia (the possessed stripper from the HIDDEN) in it too! I love this movie! Another excellent outing by the great William Lustig.

I can't really seperate Campbell from the Evild Dead trilogy. Whenever I see him in other movies I think, Man he was way better in Evil Dead. This is way I didn't like him in MC.
Bruce = Evil Dead = Raimi = Bruce

Heh. That trailers from my channel. I haven't actually seen the movie, but it was one of the trailers for other attractions on my DVD of "Ninja the Protector".

I didnt want to see any of those because as good as they may be, theyve been censored, and I cant stand watching a movie knowing that im missing something that the writer or director wanted me to see due to some short-sighted producer feeling the need to water it down for whatever reason. Drives me crazy. Now, since the date that i posted this (over a year ago) an uncut version of Bloody Valentine has been released and I bought it. Still holding out for Friday the 13th parts 3 thru 8 though, as well as the 2 maniac cop sequels.

Well, if the footage is lost, would you be willing to give it a go?  Lots of older films are like that - even the newly restored My Bloody Valentine is still missing footage, which is now considered lost.  Sad, but true.

Unrelated, but I think it's also interesting when the cuts actually change the tone...  Like, Robocop, which comes across as a little more serious and brutal in the R version than the unrated (the trimmed gore is so excessive it's comical, and lightens the tone at times).

On another note, the trimmed bits in Maniac Cop 2 are minor, almost entirely one scene.   I'd say go for it, as I don't think the film is popular enough to ever get a director's cut.

Last month one of the On Demand channels on my cable system was showing MC 1-3, so I sat down and watched them. They were all seriously messed up.
Also My Bloody Valentine is worth watching as well. All are don't miss films if you are into bad movies.

Ahh, the Maniac Cop movies are fun.

I recommend watching parts 2 & 3 as well. Maniac Cop 2 does need a DVD release (a Special Edition release would be great).   :teddyr:
