Here are some comics I think would be great for B-Movie fans:
Savage Dragon: Forget the crappy cartoon, the comic is great, especially before the Savage World saga taking place now. Basically Erik Larsen wanted to create the kind of comic that 12-year olds would want to sneak past parents and still make it fun. Plus God and Santa both say the F-Word. Not the best comic out there but good fun for those looking for the kind of mindless fun comics have been missing lately (sure there are mindless comics, but they usually aren't fun.)
Punisher: Especially the Garth Ennis issues. Basically it's watching the Punisher kill people in hilarious ways. Plus the Russian always makes me laugh. Too bad he's dead.
X-Force: A comic I used to think was God awful is now wonderful. With quirky retro art stylings thanks to Mike Allred (Madman) the series is a clever look at the cult of celebraty. Plus it's hard to resist a character named U-Go Girl. Or the fact that the "Comic relief" may actually be a master manipulator. Can you resist Doop?
Punisher and X-Force are indeed amazing. I've read a few issues of Savage Dragon, and it's great too.
I also suggest picking up a older DC title called Major Bummer. It was about a slacker who got super powers from a couple moron aliens (it was a big mistake). It had everything from a Nazi T-Rex to a growing cat. Funny, brillient, and (sadly) short-lived.
The early issues of Spawn that featured a talking duck (I think). Hmm...an ex-assassin that was murdered and came back as a hitman-for-Hell battling alongside a talking foul...IT'S CLASSIC, BABY~!
Er...X-Men 2099 for the "so bad it's good" stuff. Remember the 2099 series? Whatever happened to those? I liked X-Men 2099. Sure, Spider-Man 2099 and the other 2099 series sucked, but X-Men 2099 was quality!
Remember Malibu Comics? THEY had some B-grade comics...Ultraverse was so stupid it was good! It had a wise-ass zombie that could make a dead body come back to life and talk at his will, and a 12-year-old kid that turned into a flying 6'9" muscle-head all because of some slime!
Savage Dragon used to be great; now it just has good moments. Larsen is still a fantastic artist, though.
Ennis and Dillons' Punisher is really , really good fun. I thought the Punisher was well past his sell by date, but these guys have proved me way wrong. I hope the Russian can somehow be brought back, he was a really funny bad guy.
Morrisons' Doom Patrol was fantastic, as was his Flex Mentallo. Really offbeat and surreal. Lots of good stuff out there for Hollywood to plunder, most of it from Marvel comics.
How about b-movies based on second rate comic characters. Like the Prowler, the Rocket Racer, Mobius, Black Cat,etc. It only seems fair, if you make a mainstream movie based on a mainstream character (Superman, Batman, Spider-Man), you can do a B-movie on Power Man and Iron Fist (unless, the director is Kevin Smith).
Kevin Smith will actually be writing a Black Cat Mini-series for Marvel. His plan is to try to make characters whose comics usually wouldn't sell well do quite well. He started by putting Daredevil back on top and then working on Green Arrow. Great books both.
I am not too much into comic books, but I can't imagine why none of you have talked about "Hellblazer", it is fun, gory, has more style than "Preacher" (P. is my second favourite) and it features several f*cking great issues written by Ennis and Dillon. And not to forget the main character, John Constantine, one of the biggest b*stards ever printed on paper.
Warrior Nun Areala by Antarctic Press would be a cool B-Movie just for the title alone.
