Yo, everybody, a movie's on TCM this week that ISN'T over 30 years old! Tim Burton's Ed Wood! I forget what time and day but it's on this week. Tape it if you can. It's hilarious and Martin Landau is phenomenal as Bela Lugosi (he actually won best actor for his performance if I remember correctly).
Let's hope Burton cranks out more movies like this instead of trash like Monkeybone (only reason I didn't switch it off last night was because of my high hopes of a nude shot of Bridget Fonda's figure).
Actually, Burton didn't direct Monkeybone; that was Henry Selig, who directed Nightmare Before Christmas (which Burton only produced, wrote the story, and designed the characters).
Agreed on Ed Wood, though. The scenes with Ed directing Bela and Tor in Bride of the Monster are hilarious. "You're very sad in this scene... No, not THAT sad!"
And Landua did not win for "Best Actor," he won for "Best Supporting Actor." But, here's another vote to see if, if one hasn't already seen it. Probably the best live-action film Wood has made (IMHO) With Jeffrey Jones as Criswell, Bill Murray as Bunny, Lisa Marie as Vampira, and Norman A;lden as Wood's colorblind cameraman.
And something that never happened, as far as I know, but it should have. Ed Wood meets Orson Welles, and they talk about making films. Enjoy!
Don't forget the great George "The Animal" Steele as Tor Johnson. Imagine that a wrestler playing a wrestler. :)
