I'm being very careful next time I'm on a bus.

I'll be interested in hearing what background the investigators turn up. And what the shrinks can get out of the guy. There isn't going to be any rational explanation, but some clue as to his thought processes might make this at least a little bit less unsettling.

It's odd how the completely random and insane nature of this crime makes it so scary. Any number of other risks are present when travelling, and the most unlikely of them is probably still more likely than having your head cut off by the guy in the next seat. I think it's the difference between a set of circumstances producing a deadly but logical result, and an insane person who just flips out for no reason. Understanding it makes it less scary.

So I really want to know what this guy was thinking.

Only in Canada.  Had this been an American psycho, the sleeping passenger would have been executed painlessly and humanely by a bullet to the head.  Then the rest of the passengers would have taken him down in a hail of hot lead.

Well, no luck in gaining any insight into this psycho's reasoning. According to the radio, he's made a court appearance, and so far won't talk to anybody. At this point, they think he speaks English, but his lack of response to questions is leaving at least a little doubt. He's going to need a psych assessment to see if he's even fit to stand trial. Sounds to me like his cheese just slipped off the cracker, so to speak.

Here's a story that provides a little more detail on the incident, as well as the victim's identity:

And here's one about the killer, Vince Weiguang Li, making his first court appearance. It's interesting to note that the passengers in the above story seem to remember him as a lot bigger and more imposing than he is in the photo.

I'm going with Torgo on this one, that is some seriously scary s**t.  I guess the poor victim was asleep when the attack started.  From the news stories this seems for now liked a totally motiveless crime (other than the guy going totally bonkers on the spot).

Even though he has no prior record doesn't mean much, so let's just pray that there are no other victims of this guy.
