A real quick post before I head off to work - watched this flick last night and found it to be suprisingly well done, with some solid acting.
Herman (James Dumont) is a portly, middle-aged, soft-spoken man who lives in a plain suburban house in a small middle class neighborhood. He likes to kidnap beautiful women and put them in a cage in his cellar, then gradually torture and brainwash them. Rudy (Michelle Tomlinson) is an attractive brunette who lives in a nearby neighborhood and likes to go clubbing with her best friend and roommate Christa. But when Herman's latest victim escapes and he strangles her to death as punishment, Rudy becomes the object of his latest fixation.
He kidnaps her and puts her in his cage. He keeps samples of her blood, urine, and stools in jars. He talks to her and alternates between being the poor, lonely guy who just wants company and a demonically cruel captor who abuses her both physically and psychologically, leading to a bloody denouement.
This movie was genuinely creepy. The villain could have been cartoonish, but he was played very effectively and came across as a true psychopath. Rudy was, by turns, scared stiff, really angry, courageous, and ultimately cruel in her vengeance.
Not the most comfortable viewing, but very well done and a satisfying comeuppance for the bad guy at the end.
