Title: Kung Fu Killer
Post by: akiratubo on August 17, 2008, 11:03:40 PM
Anybody else watch this?  I thought it was pretty good.  It delivered on the title, anyway!  Very, very little wire-fu, just lots of David Carradine cracking bones and people spitting up gallons of stage blood (even if they just got kicked in the knee or something).  Hell, even the subplot about the teenage romance managed to tie into the plot in a meaningful way, and not too much time was wasted on it.

I'll be catching part two tomorrow night!

Part 2 wasn't near as good.  It was much slower and had much less action.

This time around, David Carradine, his teenage protoge, and the nightclub owner from the last movie must rescue kidnapped girls from an evil guy (who of course has a personal connection to David Carradine).

It had a few good moments but there wasn't near enough bone-crunching, brutal kung fu fighting.  The younger guy did most of the fist and footwork this time, either because they're setting him up to be the hero of a future installment or because Carradine had something better to do that week.

The most intriguing aspect of the movie for me was the relationship between the evil kung fu woman and the teenage guy's girlfriend.  The obvious interpretation is that the evil chick had a crush on the girl, but ... maybe not, especially once a few details of evil chick's life got sketched in.

Oh, and the heroes don't rescue any of the girls except the two that directly concern them.  There are several girls in the bad guy's dungeon, and at least one gets sold off, and our heroes don't appear to rescue them, nor do the buyers get any punishment.  Damn, that's downright '70s in its grimness.

I give Kung Fu Killer four slimes.
I give Kung Fu Killer 2 three slimes.

I caught about 15 minutes of #1.  I could not believe how campy/bad it was!  They made this when??  It did a good job of capturing the '70's style.  The non-fighting scenes (which is what I saw) were so painful it was funny.  Almost.  Please tell me it was deliberately so: I was howling (when I wasn't wincing).  That's good, right?

My favorite part was near the end of the first one, when the teenaged guy thought his girlfriend got killed and beat her attacker's head in with a rock.  He just kept going "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" and every time he brought the rock down, about a gallon of blood would squirt all over his face.  It was great!
