I just heard today that (in)famous '80's cult hit, Clash of the Titans, is to be re-made and will be in theaters in 2010. Yep, you heard it here first....or maybe tenth, since I haven't looked through the archives.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :hatred:
WHY, GOD, WHY?
I've known about this for a while. It was originally slated for this year, but got pushed back, obviously. Meh, I'm neither thrilled nor disturbed at this.
Now, the other remakes I've heard that are coming out, The Thing and Last House on the Left, those ones p**s me off.

The madness needs to stop! Why remake!

The Thing is something that needs to be left alone. Are the writers in Hollywood lazy? I got an ideal, maybe we should remake "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

On a serious note though, Hollywood needs to get off of their butts and get creative.
My 2.22 cents.
Later,
John
I am so sick of remakes. It will be full of CGI. Hollywood is out of ideas. Stop ruining the classics! :hatred:
Really, there will be a remake of Friday the 13th, Nightmare on elm street(blasphemy!) The day the earth stood still, and even Plan 9 from outer space!
This is really sad. Boycott hollywood!

Actually, Paul Reuben has been trying to get a new Pee Wee movie made for the last year or so but none of the big studios are interested. I, for one, would love to see an new Pee Wee flick created by the man himself.
And this is another remake I'll be passing on. Clash of the Titans wouldn't be 1/10th as cool if it weren't for the stop motion. Replace that with CGI and there goes all the glory. 'Clash' among the other Ray Harryhausen works entranced me as a child. To this day, I find them just as enchanting as I did when I was 12. It's a much more engaging fantasy between real and not real; I think. When you use computer effects, there's just all fake and nothing more.

Yeah; "Pee Wee plays with his wee-wee" :teddyr:

Yeah, Clash will lose lots of its charm with the stop-motion being replaced by cgi. Plus, they'll probably use the dreaded mtv edit style of X camera angles per second too.

Interestingly, the hilariously frightening organized burning and steamrolling of Dixie Chick cd's a few years ago has made FOOTLOOSE fairly prescient in retrospect.
If they could make a film with FOOTLOOSE's concept in the 80s when it was seriously fantastical, imagine how much more convincing it might seem to some studio suit who can youtube plenty of footage of it actually happening
in this decade. :buggedout:
I'm joking, of course.
And I'm not.
What are any of you going to do about it, eh?
Going to fill that creative gap?
I wore the tape out for that movie as a kid.
As.
A.
Kid. You cannot complain about 'these tasteless kids today' with one side of your mouth and complain about how much better movies 'used to be' with the other.
I watched Clash of the Titans again recently and the stop motion effects ARE still very cool.
And at least half of the dialogue is laughable by any standard.
It was made as an excuse for cool monster scenes then, it will be remade for the same reason in a few years. Eight year old kids will love it to death, but hopefully learn not to complain in twenty years when it's remade again.
Liking a movie doesn't make it yours. Last I checked, making a movie didn't necessarily make it yours either.
"Clash" was one of the very first films I ever saw and I did love it and still do now. It actually seems older than it is, but it doesn't look naff to me by any means. When the new films come out, all the kids will care about is action figures, plastic swords and lunchboxes. They made that film to tell a great story, make a great fantasy film. They're making it again now to make money....that's the difference.
One part I don't like is that there wont be any nudity, unless they give it an R rating. The original was PG but somehow managed to have a bit of it in there, enough to be rated R today.
And this isn't going to be rated R because their main demographic is going to be kids. Don't expect any gore either.

Right after pestering my parents into taking me to see it, I scored a CLASH OF THE TITANS coloring book at Two Guys. Even then I remember being curious as to why, if the character in the film didn't need one, the Medusa needed a cloth tied around her busom.
And yes, Judi Bowker's bum was entirely memorable for this 11 year old. :teddyr:
