BELA, oh BELA! Remember these: BLACK CROWS!! One Halloween, about 41 years ago, my father selected one of our candy give-out options as Mason BLACK CROWS!! (Mason also make DOTS! I think it's all part of Tootsie now.) He loved them and knew all 5 of us hated that licorice sh!t and wouldn't eat them and he'd get the leftovers! Man, I wish I had a box now!!!

I can't find an image of these but they rocked. They were half dollar sized wafers in fruity flavors sold in a clear plastic sheet. They came out with an easter version of these much smaller.

16. Tear Jerkers
17. Sugar Babies
(http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t214/morrisawilliams/sugar_babies.jpg)
My childhood candy of choice for a day of watching Godzilla and AIP horrors at the Beautiful Lake Theater. You could suck pieces of these babies out of your teeth for days - provided you didn't brush. :teddyr:
Mega-sticky Sugar Daddies were good, too, but a bit too much work.
I had a least one baby tooth pulled out by chewing on one of these.
I was all hung-ho about coming out of nowhere with a vote for Circus Peanuts, but find that ghouck not only laid it down at number 3, but Wonka had the same idea. It warms my heart to know I'm not the only one giving the chewy orange Styrofoam pariahs of the candy world some love.
No.18 - Charleston Chews - A childhood favorite that's sadly hard to find around here.

19.) Toxic Waste...might I say the most creative in the packaging department.

20. BUBS DADDY bubble gum!-These (were) big ropes of gum! Lotsa cool flavers! Green Apple,Watermelon, grape cherry, red hot! They were like a foot and a half long! We kids would stuff as many in our mouths as we could...sticky colorful drool would be oozing down our chins!

I thought they may have stopped making these, but I found them again recently:

I don't like the chewy monstrosities, but the original candy is awesome (especially the purple and red varieties).

Imagine a slightly crunchier/harder Butterfinger without the chocolate.
Chick-O-Sticks were a mainstay of my childhood diet, especially when I was strapped for cash. They were longer than any candy bar and only cost a nickel.
As far as I know, no actual chickens are involved in the production of Chick-O-Sicks . . . unless they force-feed them to chickens see if they are toxic.

I was going to post CHick-O-Stick, as the candy of my childhood that I really remembered fondly. I don't eat candy anymore, but I'd like to get hold of one of these for old times sake. '
From Wikipedia:
"The Chick-O-Stick is a candy product produced by Atkinson Candy Co., having been manufactured since the Great Depression. It is made primarily from peanut butter, granulated sugar, corn syrup, and toasted coconut, with colorings and preservatives... In appearance, the Chick-O-Stick is an orange stick of varying length and thickness, dusted with ground coconut. The interior of the stick is honeycombed with peanut butter and the orange hardened syrup/sugar mixture that also forms the shell." Yummy!
37. Toffee Peanuts. I've been eating these quite a bit lately, and can only find them in the liquor store.

They still sell these in the stores here, it's great because it really p**ses off the PC crowd.
My apologies to anybody allergic to peanuts, but I have a thing for peanut butter and anything with peanut butter.
Three favorites of mine:
P.B. Max (I don't believe it is still made but it was the best candy bar I've ever had; too bad their advertising campaign could have made it into the hall of fame for disasters).
Peanut Butter Bon Bons (These are sold at Walmart and is simply peanut butter in a thin shell covered with chocolate; round and a little smaller than a golf ball).
5th Avenue (I never tried one of these until I saw the movie Stargate, and it goes to prove product placement does work).
Ever make "Reese's Cups" with real peanut butter? My grandma had chocolate molds to make them and we used to buy the chocolate and make them ourselves and they're better than thereal thing. Put a small blob or butterscotch/carmel/whatever sundae topping in there with it and it's even better.

I used to buy those all the time when I was a kid. It was fun to pretend to smoke like the grown-ups.
They always seemed to be placed near the bottom of the candy shelf. No matter where I went, there they were at the bottom.
They started pulling them from local store shelves sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. Haven't seen any since.
These were the ones I remember buying...

I still remember that cheap minty taste they had. And the red dot at one end that was supposed to be the cherry.

I've never tried that before.
I remember an episode of Oprah (I believe...from some time ago) when the guest was some lady who showed the audience how to make their own homemade copies of brand name products and one of those was what she called 'recess' peanut butter cups. The technique she used to make the peanut butter sweet, like in the real deal, was to mix a little chocolate in with the peanut butter.
The P.B. Max I mentioned, was more of a real peanut butter filling than Reeses, so it was less sweet, but they included graham cracker crumbles as a cover layer.
On Christmas, I would eat myself sick on a bag of Reeses Miniatures when I was younger. Now I eat myself sick on peanut butter bon bons instead.
Not a candy bar, and I have only ever found this once, back in the early to mid 70s, at a bakery thrift shop, I bought two boxes of a variation of Hostess Ho Hos (Swiss Cake Rolls), but rather than filled with creme filling it was filled with peanut butter. Just one more box before I die....please. :teddyr:
Again, not a commerically produced candy, but one of my favorite peanut butter-based treats is
IRISH POTATO CANDY!
It's also extremely easy to make.
A Recipe:
2 (1 lb.) boxes powdered sugar
1/2 c. hot mashed potatoes, drained
1 sm. jar crunchy peanut butter
Mix sifted sugar into potatoes a little at a time by hand. (Don't panic when potatoes liquify as the first sugar is added. This is what it's supposed to do. Just keep adding sugar until it is pastry consistency.) Sprinkle wax paper with additional powdered sugar. Take baseball-sized ball of mixture and roll out like pastry. Spread with peanut butter and roll like a jelly roll. Wrap rolls in plastic wrap; chill and slice.
Makes 2 rolls
Somebody should market this stuff - they could call 'em
Spudanutters!
or
Peanutspudders!
My mom made this once when I was a kid, I loved it and she never made it again. Kudos for the recipe.
Hadn't seen these in quite a while.
