Title: making a "halloween" mix cd
Post by: ToyMan on September 05, 2008, 03:29:36 AM
okay, so i thought it'd be fun to put a halloween mix cd together. here's what i have so far-

"a month dead" - stephen lynch (a stand-up comedian who plays guitar...)
"a nightmare on my street" - dj jazzy jeff & the fresh prince
"bark at the moon" - ozzy osbourne
"feed my frankenstein" - alice cooper
"halloween" - stephen lynch
"this is halloween" - marilyn manson (a cover of the "nightmare before xmas" track)
"thriller" - michael jackson
"he's back (the man behind the mask)" - alice cooper
"werewolves of london" - warren zevon
"ghostbusters theme" - ray parker jr.
"the time warp" - the RHPS soundtrack
"dream warriors (theme from NOES 3)" - dokken

i'm shooting for pop/rock themes, because i have a horror-billy punk mix in the works, too and i want to keep them seperate. any suggestions?!

What's this? A Halloween music mix without "Monster Mash"? Unpossible!

I'd also suggest The Arrogant Worms' "Scary Ned." It's a novelty piece, but it does reference Halloween, and it's got some really nice fiddle playing.

Here's a few more that might work:

"Season of the Witch" - Donovan (or better yet, the Dr. John cover from Blues Bros. 2000)
"Bad Moon Risin'" - CCR (or better yet, the cover by 16 Horsepower)
"Ghost Riders in the Sky" - Johnny Cash
"I Walk on Gilded Splinters" - Dr. John (super-spooky voodoo tune)
"Evil" - Howlin' Wolf
"The Black Rider" - Tom Waits

ooh, i should have made a note about this- a cover version of "monster mash", by the misfits, is going to appear on the horror-billy punk halloween disc i'm burning, too. i wouldn't want to have too many similar songs on either disc. similarly, the "munsters theme" appears on another halloween mix, that being rob zombie's "halloween hootenanny", so i didn't want to use that, either.

there are a lot of good suggestions here, though. thanks, guys.

I'm not sure but the theme from Halloween would be nice.

Hey ToyMan, could you post some of your horror-billy punk mix? I'm always looking for new music for the Halloween Party!

Ahh that's a shame, some really scary movie themes out there.  Like Rosemary's Baby!

I was gonna bring up the Misfits cover.  Glad you did.

I was gonna mention as well:
"Nature Trail to Hell in 3-D" by "Weird Al" Yankovic.  It's a five minute horror movie with funny lyrics.
"I Put A Spell on You" by Screamin Jay Hawkins.  Marilyn Manson also does a cover of it.
"The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati" by Rose and the Arrangement
"Rock Lobster" by The B-52s
'Fish Heads' by Barnes and Barnes (not really a Halloween song, but I sometimes hear it played around then.)

Can't find the real theme on Youtube anywhere... it's an interesting bit of music included on a Paramount collection I have... la la la la la la la la la la la... la la la... la... la... la la la... la la la, la, la, la, la, la - la...
I am saddened to see no true history on your mix.  Halloween is all about the past, of course, even, what has passed.

A belated contender could be "Ghosts" by Japan. Pure spooky atmosphere and paranoia.

I'd "O Fortuna (Dance Remix)" by Apotheosis.

It's a kickass techno/dance mix of the classic Orff piece.  It'd be really great for a party, especially if you want people to get up and move!  :)

If you want to listen to it, you can find it on the playlist on my Myspace profile. http://www.myspace.com/dkaidian (http://www.myspace.com/dkaidian)
