Same rules as before, only the first game you list counts. Only one game per post. Etc. Etc. Etc. Game can be for any platform or genre, as long as it was released prior to 2000.

Oh man, the one that immediately comes to mind?
No.2 - Crossed Swords (NeoGeo) - First played this on a NeoGeo multi-game arcade machine at the local bowling alley when I was about 12. Far as I know it's the 1st "first person slasher" game ever made. Awesome arcade fun that I'd love to see get a Wii makeover ala the similar Dragon Quest title currently available. :teddyr:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbutyXusuRs
3.) Eternal Champions
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b8/EternalChampionsBox.jpg)
A severely underrated fighter that has awesome graphics for it's time and gameplay.
4. DOOM
(http://wiki.fz.se/images/thumb/0/03/300px-Doom_box.jpg)
Was the daddy of shoot-'em ups in it's day. I had the PSX version, which I thought was graphically just as good as the other consoles' versions. People also complained about the change in music, but the atmospheric sound effects just added more to the isolation and blood-shed! A true classic
5.) Wolfenstein 3D
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/05/Wolfenstein-3d.jpg)
Following up on Circus's Doom nomination, I had to add this one. This game brings me back to Word Processing class in high school. When the teacher wasn't looking, I'd play the game because someone put it on the school's network drive. Good times, good times.
6. STREETS OF RAGE
(http://www.gameovor.fr/public/Nostalgie/streets-of-rage-start.jpg)
The best side-scrolling beat 'em-up I've ever played. I used to spend hours on this game after I had first played it at friend's house, I loved it. Throwing guys through telephone boxes, stabbing hooker-ninjas with broken bottles....It had great music too.
7) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PlayStation. Man, I can't count the number of times I played through that one. And the music...
8. Final Fantasy VII
(http://www.dpluss.nl/final-fantasy-7-ps1.jpg)
Really can't say enough about this game. Best RPG, possibly best game I have ever had the pleasure to play. Totally engrossing from start to finish, great story, great characters and fantastic gameplay.

9. Adventure!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WE6MSXqouSk
Massive nostalgia for those who were there.
10. Resident Evil 2
(http://www.coolrom.com/screenshots/n64/Resident%20Evil%202.gif)
2nd best game I've ever played. Improves on the first installment in every way; graphics, story, characters, gameplay and overall atmosphere. This was as close as you could get to what a "Dawn Of The Dead" game might've been like.
11.) Killer Instinct
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d7/Killer_Instinct_flyer.jpg)
I actually started playing this game after the initial popularity and fell in love with it. Especially the ultra combos.
1) Punchout- Body Blow Body Blow Uppercut
2) FALLOUT/FALLOUT 2!!!!
3) Duke 3d
4) Shadow Warrior
5) Discs of Tron
13. Mortal Kombat III

One of the best beat-'em ups period!

Ed unfortunately, I beleive you are about to be banished to the netherrealm for posting more than once in a 100 list.
I guess while I'm posting I shall get the obvious out of the way.
14.) Pacman
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/59/Pac-man.png)
No.15 - X-Kaliber 2097 - A hack-n-slash adventure title I played for hours on the SNES in my younger days. I picked it up recently on an emulator and realized just how soft I've gotten from today's simplified "make it easy so everybody thinks they're good at videogames" fare.

Driving a ferrari, chick by your side, surrounded by palm trees, 80s music blaring....aww dude!

21. Metal Gear Solid

You cannot "set the bar", the bar is Metal Gear...

yes...we all must pick up the pieces and move on.
22.) Ninja Gaiden
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/76/NinjaDistanceSNES.png)
A game that caused me much stress but I loved it. I beat it once and never went back.
23. Contra

24.) Mortal Kombat 2
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5d/Mortal_Kombat_II.png)
The best of the series IMHO.
25. Earthworm Jim
(http://www.snesclassics.com/snes-roms/images/boxart/earthworm%20jim-1.jpg)

Jim's making a comeback, thankfully! :bouncegiggle:
26.) Sonic The Hedgehog (I prefer part 2)

27. MediEvil
(http://www.cincinnati.com/freetime/games/reviews/img/medievil1.jpg)
A really, really fun game! :bouncegiggle: This game had some really cool weapons, the level design was really quirky and the boss battles were always imaginative. Also, short cut-scenes were well inter-woven with active game-play, along with spooky settings. Tons and tons and tons of fun!
28.) Combat - Atari 2600
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d0/Combatatarigamepack.jpg)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m86ftny1uY
I say keep your XBox 360 war games, this one will always be the best. :teddyr: My brother and I would kill hours playing it.

The PSX's best platformer by a mile, great new gameplay elements were added all round and the later stages became infuriatingly difficult to complete 100%
32.) Maniac Mansion
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/47/Maniac_Mansion_%28Commodore_64%29_box_front_cover_art.jpg)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Gamehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_(arcade_game)
For those that don't remember, this was an arcade game found at malls and arcades in the late '80s/early '90s during the big Ninja Turtle craze. Then it got ported to the NES, but due to the fact that there was a previous Ninja Turtle game for NES, they just called it TMNT 2: The Arcade Game. Pretty great game. Side scrolling beat em up.

Mixing Doom with fantasy, I used to play this for hours. Wraithsverge was the coolest weapon. You shoot out spirits of the dead to rip apart your enemies.
Tekken 3
I personally thought this was the best out of all of them. Tekken 2 runs a close 2nd.

The first playstation game I ever played, I fell in love with it straight away. Even after I had played other platformers, this was always my favourite. Very unique gameplay and levels, you could bounce on watermelons and turn into a rhino.

One of the best looking games on the psx, on eof the most underrated aswell
#90 Devastators
No one I know nowadays seems to remember this game.
Several years ago (around '95 or '96), the local Tilt arcade was selling some of their older arcade machines.
They had Devastators for $100 so I bought it.
Ended up owning it for close to 4-5 years before selling it to an acquaintance for $50.
By that time, the screen needed to be replaced and I didn't want to bother with it. It would've cost more to replace the screen than what I paid for the entire cabinet.

This game was actually pretty cool!
You ran up the screen shooting enemy soldiers, throwing grenades and using rockets to shoot down planes and tanks, etc...
Two people could play it at the same time and it was fun to have a friend standing next to you pounding away on the Fire button, trying to kill everything onscreen.
My friends would always laugh because at the time I was living in a small apartment and they'd come in and see this huge arcade machine against the wall in my living room.

Wow. Can't believe someone mentioned that gem. I have it. Shame it only had ten wrestlers in it.
My friends hated it. They're like, "It's Mortal Kombat, but with wrestlers. This sucks."
