Figured why not. Pretty much inspired by the other top 100 lists floating around, most specifically the frontmen one... so yeah..
1. Might as well start with my favorite band. Robby Krieger of The Doors.

Hey, DarthChicken, have you seen the lack of love THE DOORS have gotten in the "worst bands" thread? (I like 'em and have most of their albums):
http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,120701.30.html (http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,120701.30.html)
Oh well, any guitarists list should be topped by JIMI HENDRIX (not Robbie Krieger):

4.) Jerry Cantrell - Alice In Chains

I think he sometimes gets overlooked when people talk about guitar players, honestly.

I know other people dislike The Doors, but in my opinion they're amazing.. Also, I agree that Hendrix is a better guitarist, but I wanted to start the list with someone else.

THE DOORS have simply fallen out of fashion. It's trendy to knock

There's more to great guitar than just metal. Glad to see Jordan, Healy and some other blues guys. Where's the jazz (ever tried to play real jazz guitar..that stuff is HARD) and classical.
37. For my first entry, I submit this guy; I don't know his name:

I've got a few others in mind for latter entries. I'll avoid my metal picks (well, we'll see :bouncegiggle: ) since that genre seems to be well covered.

I'm with you, Ulthar. I figure the other guys will nominate enough rock heroes, so I'll stick tp the less traveled genres.

42. Dan Tyminski (Allison Kraus and Union Station, plus "Man of Constant Sorrow" in O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU).
With most rock, you get one 'solo' per song..with Bluegrass, you get one after each verse! :)
(If you want to skip to Dan's short guitar work on this song, it starts around 4:45 or so).

His "Live at McCabe's" is considered one of the great acoustic guitar albums. His version of "Nine Pound Hammer" smokes. Here's an excerpt from the 30 second mark: "Nine Pound Hammer (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=50:kvfuxc9gldke~T)" (unfortunately only a little soloing in the clip).
