After accidentally misidentifying John Carpenter as the director of Coppola's Dracula- in my defense I was looking up a Carpenter movie in another window on IMDB at the time- it occurs to me that perhaps, subconciously, I wanted this movie to have been directed by Carpenter. I loved THE FOG, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, THE THING, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, and, heck, even STARMAN was way more interesting than it had any right to be. That got me to thinking what DRACULA would have been like if Carpenter had directed it. I can't imagine him doing any worse a job than Coppola. In fact I bet the casting would have been much MUCH more interesting.
So, what movie do you think would have been better if it had been given to a different director?
Well, the prequel trilogy to Star wars should have been directed by a retarded comatose chimpanzee with down syndrome.
I'm sure it would be far superior to the George Lucas version.
Charlton Heston was in "Ben Hur" directed by William Wyler and "El Cid" directed by Anthony Mann, but I believe I can remember Heston saying, that both movies would have been better if the directors had swapped roles. If Mann had directed "Ben Hur" and Wyler had directed "El Cid."
I really would like to see what 'Total Recall' would have turned out like had David Cronenberg been allowed to direct it.
I'd also like to see hot LOTR would have turned out if the Oldschool, Dead-Alive, Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles Peter Jackson would have directed it.
CALIGULA, as directed by John Waters.
