What would you suggest I watch for Halloween from now until Halloween? You can suggest pretty much any horror movie.
Here is a list that I have already seen that I can think of so you don't say them.
All Nightmare On Elm Street movies
Saw 1-4
Scream 1-3
Halloween- all
I've seen most mainstream zombie movies but if you have a good suggestion then go ahead.
Friday The 13th- 1-4, Manhattan, and X
Alien
I'm sure I've seen more but I'll tell you if I have seen it. Pretty much suggest anything that I didn't put above. Thanks :)
How about Phantasm 1-4?
Re-Animator
Night Of The Demons
The Burning
Hellraiser
The Funhouse
Friday the 13th part 5
The Child's Play movies, part 1 is a good slasher, part 2 is cheesy but fun, and Bride of Chucky is a comedy but it's pretty good.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 remake with Jessica Biehl
The Mummy and The Plague of Zombies by Hammer Studios, if you enjoy the old classics
Frankenstein (the old Universal Studios one in B&W)
If you haven't seen Aliens, then by all means check that out.
Hellraiser Bloodlines
Prom Night (the original)
Demons: A great mix of monsters and blood. The climactic motorcycle scene is one of the best heroic moments in a horror movie, period.
Suspiria: Not much violence, but a great spooky atmosphere makes up for it.
Phantasm: Definitely a new Halloween classic. The setting in a graveyard and mortuary make it perfect for the season.
Re-Animator: A great, bizarre take on the "undead" genre.
Alien: For a consistently tense, claustrophobic atmosphere, this film can't be beat. Still the only truly scary film in the franchise.
Hammer's "Scream of Fear" -- If you haven't seen it, it's full of surprises --
peter johnson/denny crane
Perhaps - "The Fog";
- "Night Of/Curse Of The Demon" (1958);
- "Ghost Story"
Netherworld- I watch it every Halloween, its seedy and I like that...
This year I'm also lining up:
Hatchet
Feast 2
Fade to Black (Dennis Christopher)
However, avoid Rest Stop 2: it was aweful... it was the kind of rental that you actually think about asking for your money back.
Last Halloween my feature presentation was CARNIVAL OF SOULS (the original, not the remake!) Couldn't have made a better choice. But I like 'em old, and in B&W; the gory Technicolor stuff doesn't capture the Halloween mood for me (though I like those movies as well).
I like to dip into the classic Universal well this time of year (FRANKENSTEIN, THE MUMMY, THE WOLFMAN, DRACULA, & sequels). The original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is also a good seasonal staple. SPIDER BABY, THE HAUNTING... lots of possibilities.
Night Of The Living Dead
Return Of The Living Dead
The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane (not a horror film per say, but a great suspense film starring a young Jodie Foster)
Hitchcock's PSYCHO
THE INNOCENTS (1963)
THE BODY SNATCHER (1945)
JAWS
THE SHINING (1980)
ALIEN (1979)
THE MUMMY (1932)
THE HAUNTING (1963)
THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE
INVADERS FROM MARS (1953)
THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951)
THE THING (1982)
Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
On my list for this year are:
White Noise (great if you are a ghost lover, otherwise you probably wouldn't like it)
Texas Chain Saw Massacre (the original, I've never seen it)
Another year we watched:
Halloween (I know it's on all the time, but I hadn't seen it since it came out)
The Fog (original with Adrienne Barbeau)
UM don't forget all the gems released by FULL MOON. Also for a funny twist add Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Carnival of souls
If you're looking for something different try....
THE ANTICHRIST (aka L'Anticristo)
THE EERIE MIDNIGHT HORROR SHOW
THE VAMPIRE HAPPENING
COUNT DRACULA'S GREAT LOVE
BLOOD FOR DRACULA
FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN
OR if you're looking for something REALLY different try....
NUDE FOR SATAN
SEXUAL PARASITE: KILLER PU$$Y
This is what I decided to go with this year:

I also may check out some of TCMs Halloween lineup: http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article/?cid=208674
Cat People, Freaks, The Devil Doll, Mark of the Vampire, The Devil Bat, White Zombie, The Body Snatcher, Bedlam, The Ghoul
Lots of recommended classic horror there: CAT PEOPLE, FREAKS, WHITE ZOMBIE, & THE BODY SNATCHER are the cream in my opinion.

You won't soon forget
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. It's the
granddaddy of them all. Though
LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT predates it by nearly 2 years and is as important (though loathsome)
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is never absurd, does not resort to parlor tricks, and it's always true to the vision: the soundtrack of droning gnawing threat is extremely important for the stunning effect... never does the film do what we expect, never is the image not interesting or horrifying, never are we not anxious... or downright terrified... still holds up
real well and
right quick, watched it this past week on IFC...!! Who complained 'bout my
IFC...?? As
BUGS would say: "Love it! Lo-ou-ove it...!!"

Uhm hmmm... Have you seen
BEDLAM? It's horrible and gets a bit freaky and
THE GHOUL is so rarely shown and creaky enough to interest not only the novice but the diehard who hasn't seen it (I have a Sinister Cinema VHS from many years ago...and that's how I finally got to see it after years of reading about it...) All of the rest are well worth a look see,
FREAKS for one is not exactly my cherzs for HALLOWEEN, but certainly acceptable and all good flicks. I hope to catch
MARK,
BAT and
ZOMBIE... Thanks,
REV.

I only caught a small bit of BEDLAM one Halloween (when it was shown on AMC) and hope to catch the whole thing this year. Needed to complete my Val Lewton checklist.
Re. Val Lewton checklist --
When fantasizing about owning my own movie-theatre, I would program the same double feature every year for Halloween night. First, something for all ages: Val Lewton's "Curse of the Cat People" -- I would call this a perfect "first" horror film for kids, as all is resolved by the end, but the chills are real, and the atmospherics first-rate.
Then, I would follow with something for the older crowd: "Quatermass and The Pit aka 5 Million Years to Earth" -- The film with just about everything: Bugs from Mars, WW2, dinosaur skeletons, ESP, ghosts, demons, goblins, Weird Science . . . well, I've rhapsodised about this film before. Anyone caring to know what I'm like, this is one film that hits just about every interest I have. An exercise in pure imagination.
Re. "Bedlam" -- This film tricks you. Nothing that comes before really prepares you for the moments that they finally get inside the asylum. Not a good film for claustrophobics . . . This would be a good film if you were doing a Lewton double-feature to pair with "The Body Snatchers", as many of the sets are similar.

Mr Vampire is what I'm planning on watching, one of my all time favorites.
