Title: Pigs in Space!!
Post by: lester1/2jr on October 23, 2008, 10:56:54 AM
A while back there was a thread asking about early bad movie experiences.  I got as far back as the live action spider man on "the electric company"  but can't believe i forgot this

It was , along with the swedish chef, the best part of "The muppet show" .

My wife cannot stand the Muppets, so my viewings have to be surreptitous, but I always got a kick from Pigs in Space -- I just recently saw the John Cleese guest-starring episode at a friend's house.  They had a very snide sense of humour, those puppets . . .

How can anyone not stand the Muppet Show.  Sesame Street I can understand, but the Muppet Show is just good old fashioned chaotic humor.

I just got the first Muppet Show season on DVD and I think the best performance of Ernie and Bert was their guest appearance in the Muppet Show.

Sesame Street basically sucks with a few exceptions like Grover and the sketch with the (probably nameless) puppets rearranging their eyes, noses, eyebrows, etc.

Don't forget Sesame Street gave us that pair of alien muppets who were startled by the telephone:
Z4VNMERVsC4

The Muppet Show may have been targeting a wider audience.  The parents and older siblings of the 1-2-3, A-B-C crowd.  Worked for me.

Edited to add: The various guest appearances were fun too: Jeff Goldblum as Bob's brother Minneapolis comes to mind.

Seriously, how can anyone NOT like the Muppets.  I love Sesame Street but that caters to the 5 and under crowd.  Personally the best part of Sesame Street is:

Snuffleupagus.

As far as the Muppet Show, who doesn't like Fozzie, Gonzo, Animal or the very underappreciated Rowlf?

I love the muppets still-but I'm to old to appreciate Seasme Street anymore.  Or should I say it was better when I was a kid.

My friends and I had a discussions about something simialr one day, after looking up some Square One tv clips on youtube.  Kid shows back then actaully tried to teach the kids and make them smart.  Now a days its more about making sure the kids feel good and have self-esteem.  It run by the people who think there should be no winners or losers.  You get the trophy just for trying.

My favorite muppets were Statler and Waldorf.  The two old men in the balcony who would heckle the show.  Even now, they make me laugh.

They had him in a Mission: Impossible style skit recently, dropping from the ceiling to get a cookie.  Good stuff.  I like him.  But I think I have a bigger fondness for:
