Title: Help Me With IT!
Post by: Psycho Circus on October 23, 2008, 12:31:10 PM
I bought Stephen King's IT on DVD yesterday (had "it" on VHS originally), now the running time on the back of the case says "180 mins", but (BUT!) the film only showed the first part (about 90 mins) then went back to the title menu. I clicked on everything I could yet there's no part 2?? The film ends when Stan kills himself in the bathtub, I even checked Chapter selection and it won't go beyond that point.

This is the main DVD version sold of this film, does anyone else have it on DVD, or know what the hell's going on?

I've had this happen before, with Netherworld. I dont own IT on dvd, so I'm not sure what the problem is.However, with Netherworld, it was a double-sided disk and that was where the problem layed. Could this be it? I have never seen an IT dvd, so I can't vouch that that could be the problem, but its worth a shot.

good luck

Doh, thankyou!

What a stupid idea though, surely they could've got "it" on one side?

Thankyou!

Speaking of IT, has anyone besides me read the book?  Just curious..

Lots of disturbing stuff in it that I suppose you can get away with writing about if you're a well known horror author.  (And I'm not even talking about the horror elements of the story, really.)

The book is one of my all-time favourites! "It's" even longer than the film too  :buggedout:. No, really, really great read, much more disturbing than the film could've been. I've always hated the ending though.

I know exactly what you're referring to, re. things in the book not in the film --

King is drawing from Hindu mythology and Tantrism.  It helps to read a bit on the topic.  King's premise is that a very ancient evil needs a very ancient source of power to defeat it.  The girl is offering herself as a vehicle for Tantric energy -- there is a proper name for this that has found its way into modern prostitution (Dakini).  By having sex with all the boys, the boys become initiates in the pranic energies, absorb kundalini, and can use these against It.

Yes, it is a shocking read, especially in these days of social repulsion at any form of child sexuality, but works pretty well once you know what he's doing.

Thanks for clearing that up!  I remember finding that to be a really awkward part in the book.

I've tried to read it, but like with most of Stephen King's novels, I quit, before I got to the end of the book. Actually, the only one of his novels that I've made it all the way through, is "Salem's Lot."

I would but it is so much faster to just watch the movie. :)
