Title: My Name Is Bruce - IT'S HERE!
Post by: AnubisVonMojo on October 26, 2008, 01:25:29 PM
Anyone living in or around the New York City area, it's opening on Halloween at the Sunshine Cinema. I'm supposed to go see Rocky Horror with some friends at midnight, but the Sunshine is having showings all day long. The chin himself will be at the final three showings of the night. For some reason I've got a not-so-great feeling about the movie itself, but it's Bruce and the big screen, so who am I kidding? :teddyr:

Awesome.  I got tickets for the Boston show.  He's introducing the film and then doing Q&A.  From what I've seen of his Q&A in the past, that ought to be worth the price of admission on its own.

Aw crap, I forgot to keep an eye on the date and sure enough he's in town with the film tonight. Three shows all sold out. Well at least he's still touring with his new movies and obviously the fan base is still there.

Bruce! Why are you doing this? Put this thing on dvd, so we, poor European bastards can enjoy it!
Anyway, I wish the New Yorkers to have a great time watching this movie.

My guess is that he's building ground-swell support for a dvd release.  The fact that he can go to all these cities and sell out three shows is pretty impressive.

Got my tickets to see it in DC on 11/15 a while ago. Looking forward to it, and I'll have a review up after I do.

Okay, after rearranging the schedules, I've come to a conclusion: I'll be seeing the movie first thing Friday morning for my one-man "review viewing", then going back Saturday night for the "wife and mother-in-law viewing" with the intro and Q&A. A friend already reserved her seats for a Sunday night showing, so I might even go so far as a third show.

I'd love to go to the one in Philly, but I got work, so I can't go.

Well, I saw it this morning folks. I was the first (and only) person in the theater for the premiere showing. Not a surprise since most people who would see this movie were either at work, in school, or sleep till noon anyway. I got to kick off my sneakers, hang my feet over the seat in front of me, and curse myself for not having a handheld camcorder...

The good news is that it doesn't suck. The bad news is that when Bruce isn't on screen, there's really no reason to be watching. The best news is that once he's introduced after the first 10 minutes or so, the man doesn't leave the screen !

The writing is hilarious. Bruce's "character" comes off like Ash at his wackiest and most arrogant in Army of Darkness, only if he were a b-actor instead of a supermarket worker-deadite slayer, as well as older, crankier, incredibly drunk at times, and very cowardly.

I'll have more when I post my review for it, likely later tonight or first thing in the morning. If you have the chance to see it, take it. If you don't, put this puppy at the top of your NetFlix queue when it comes out in February!
