Well let see if we can get there...I'll start.
1.) The Warriors (clip NSFW due to language)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTDWyTJDaec
Side note, this intro has to be one of the best ever.
I've always liked the score to Wild Things, not only the main theme but all the music throughout the movie sets the tone perfectly. Here's the main theme, if you imagine skimming across the Florida everglades as this plays, it's pretty cool:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5weOdmZzIo#
3.) Star Wars
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8ZTTsiJupo
If I could have theme music it would be the above.
4) Phantasm -
apNLPvsrPgA
I love Phantasm, but it would not have been half as good without it's brilliant musical cues. Admittedly, not the scariest ever but thanks to it's eerie score (Including the above main theme), a greatly directed piece of work.
5.The Exorcist

8.) BERNARD HERRMANN: PSYCHO
9.) A Clockwork Orange

I used to use different tracks on the album as background music for my college radio show.

AHD, you beat me to it. Good selection there.

Jerry Goldsmith's (initially unreleased) original score for Ridley Scott's LEGEND
First, hooray for Rev. Powell for mentioning ANATOMY OF A MURDER. Along the same lines, I would like to nominate:
13. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM (a Frank Sinatra classic, and a great, sleazy performance by Darren McGavin).
14. ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS: Gil Evans, David Bowie, Ray Davies & Sade! Great soundtrack, mediocre film.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d04Sk-LOjw
15.) The Crow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzbRSD_rM1A
The Cure, NIN, STP, Pantera, etc...all original songs too which was refreshing.
No.16 - "Trainspotting" - I don't really like the movie but the soundtrack features everything from Underworld and Primal Scream to Bizet via Lou Reed and Iggy Pop.
16.canibal holocaust
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf1Vt6r-sj8
the music is so great for such a disturbing piece of cinema
18.) Last Action Hero
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRrLn4F8dTo
Actually did much better than the movie I think...
#19 Once Upon a Time in the West by Ennio Morricone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6BQKFs3-VM
#20 Requiem for a Dream by Clint Mansell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJdb-bNZokA
(It is hard to find a version of the soundtrack that is not the remix for the Two Towers trailer.
No.21 - Maximum Overdrive - All AC/DC, rocking your face off figuratively while p**sed-off sentient machines rip it off literally. Awesome.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jvqPvDUEW8
22) Flashdance :teddyr:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1FWheVIfJwM
"Maniac", "He's A Dream", "Imagination", "Manhunt" - Great songs!
23. AMADEUS
Nearly every piece of music that was selected was given a serious role to play in the narrative.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TdWEKlpIPc8
Motley Crue, Lion, Ozzy Osbourne, Honeymoon Suite, Stan Bush & the excellent theme song by Tim Feehan
No.25 -
Tromeo & Juliet - Lemmy, Sublime, Wesley Willis, Ass Ponys, Meatmen. Troma knows how to assemble their soundtracks. :drink:
This trailer is not recommended for pregnant women, the elderly, animal rights activists, or the squemish. :tongueout:

28. Scarface
(http://www.deborah-harry.com/dh/otherreleases/scarface.jpg)
No.29 - Death Proof - Whether you dig Tarantino movies or not, the guy also knows how to assemble a soundtrack. Most of it is music that I wouldn't normally be interested in, but somehow together the tracks just work. I bring up
Death Proof b/c I've been listening to it a lot as of late. The audio clips from the movie suck compared to other soundtracks like
Pulp Fiction, but the music is a great mix of songs and compositions, including one from the master himself, Morricone. :teddyr:

31.) Beetlejuice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFAfiLA97mM
32.) A score had been written by ALEX NORTH for 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, but in the meantime, STANLEY KUBRICK had recordings of JOHANN STRAUSS and RICHARD STRAUSS, KHACHATURIAN and what then would have been called Avant Gard records of GYORGY LIGETI's music. When he was reaching the editing stage, KUBRICK couldn't bear not to use the exact recordings he had listened to while filming and assembling the film. KUBRICK's choice (which resulted in at least one lawsuit) seems perfect.

37. Staying Alive [1983]

Known for the BeeGees tracks, but I prefer the other half of the soundtrack.
38. Superfly
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmZjD2UWoso
Classic funky Curtis Mayfield cuts like "Superfly" and "Pusherman." There's a brief snippet of Curtis singing "Pusherman" in the trailer.
39. On the heels of SUPERFLY, we must mention SHAFT
40. Jerry Goldsmith's shockingly avant-garde PLANET OF THE APES (1968).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJnBF3Taf4A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G7hxWXO31o&feature=related

Ry Cooder's solo slide guitar provided most of the soundtrack. The terriffic soundtrack album features songs from Roy Orbison, Eels, Tom Waits, Los Lobos, etc. that either didn't make it into the film or were just heard in background snippets. It would make the list just based on Cooder's score, but the album is a bonus. (The movie is VERY bad, pretentious and boring, though.)

More a question than a nomination: Does anyone know where to find the soundtrack to "Bar Fly", the Micky Rourke, Faye Dunnaway autobiographical film on Charles Bukowski? That soundtrack had a wild mix of modern and old-fashioned standards, with jazz and Chuck E. Weiss thrown in for good measure. Nobody I know seems to have this.

Assembled by Herbie Hancock. Starring Dexter Gordon (who got an Oscar nomination). Mostly original music, although done in the 1950s Paris expatriate style. Sadly I couldn't find a youtube clip. Here's a sample of Bobby McFerrin and Herbie performing the title track (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=50:0ifixc9hld6e~T).
Okay I'm going to dare at #64 to insert one of my favorite film scores. There isn't a minute of the sound of this film that I don't really like, or even love, but I don't like all the permutations of its cuts.
BLADE RUNNER, with a score by VANGELIS, is kind of one of my favorite films, but hardly perfect and I'm well aware of its many flaws. When the film was new I saw it several times, and even brought a tape recorder into a movie theatre in order to tape the soundtrack and forgot about it and CLUNK it went (yes on those 1 hour tapes that were the hot new thing in the early '80s) that was embarrassing (but I got the tape flipped) :teddyr: All that 'cause the soundtrack way back when was unreleased, hence not available, and in legal dispute; I remember I had even bought a kind of lousy ripoff orchestral recording LP that used the music composed by VANGELIS and tried to fill the gap, but VANGELIS was almost all electronic on that soundtrack, and had a tone that only his droning, melancholic and haunting recordings held.

73. THE GRADUATE - Simon & Garfunkle
(http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf300/f372/f37285ig9ta.jpg)
"Nichols' masterstroke was to transplant these pre-existing songs into his film, where they not only meshed perfectly with the story's themes of youthful rebellion and alienation but also heralded a new era in movie music centered around the appropriation of past pop hits, a marketing gimmick that grew exponentially in the years to follow." -Jason Ankeny, All-Music Guide (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:39fpxqu5ld6e)
The Fountain Soundtrack, by Clint Mansell, the Kronos Quartet, and Mogwai is amazing. Say what you will about the movie (I loved it), but the music will tear at you and leave you undeniably moved.
