a week or so ago i ordered the petey wheatstraw dvd, a product of xenon pictures. while the packaging suggests that it includes a commentary with both rudy ray moore and jimmy lynch, i can't seem to access this on the disc at all. there are a few more features on the disc that are also not there. looking at the info about xenon's previous release of this film, it seems like mine is the old disc in the new box, according to the catalogue number on the disc.
i tried to see if xenon themselves could offer me any sort of solution to this problem. i figure that if i order the film again, it's likely just going to come out of a warehouse just like this one, and have the wrong disc in it. unfortunately, the e-mail address they offer on their website for customer service inquiries doesn't work. as soon as i'd sent it, it bounced back into my inbox as "undeliverable". i tried forwarding the original message to every e-mail address they offer on their contact page, and got the same results.
last night, i called and left them a voice mail explaining my problem, and another a couple of hours later after i'd thoroughly inspected the disc to see if the features were hidden somewhere obscure. during both calls i gave my e-mail address and urged them to contact me regarding any sort of solution they were willing to offer. i got no response today.
i called again today, with a more urgent tone. i explained to them that i'm a media seller for a nation-wide chain, and that if they aren't willing to return contact, and offer a solution to the problem that i'd have to post a negative review on our company's website, and strongly discourage customers from ordering any of their products.
i'm just curious; does anyone else here have the petey wheatstraw dvd? either version? if you have the older one, which catalogue number does it have on it? if you have the newer one, the one with "THE DOLEMITE COLLECTION" logo on the cover, does it have the commentary on it?
oh, jeez.
i finally get a response from someone after tracking down the xenon pictures youtube account. here was the response that i got-

I apologize for misleading info regarding the special features on this DVD. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Back in 2002, we had planned on releasing each of the RR Moore titles with the stated extras, including the letterboxed version, but for some reason, the decision was made not to do so. It appears that we changed the info on the print for on all the titles but forgot to change it on Petey Wheatstraw! We shall be sure to correct this info on our next print run for this title. Again, I'm sorry for any inconvenience you have experienced.
so it's like "yeah, sorry you didn't get what you paid for. better luck next time!". great approach. i've replied, suggesting that they're going to have to go above-and-beyond to make this right for me. we'll see how that turns out.
I wouldn't expect much from a low budget operation like that, or a big one either. That does suck though, first the guy dies then they put out the wrong info on his dvd cover :hatred:
the f**ked-up thing is, this disc has been out like this for 6 years now, and the way they're talking this seems to be the first time anyone has brought this to their attention. also, no response today about extra steps they're willing to take to take this bitter taste out of my mouth.
That is poor customer service. Plus, simply putting down honesty in packaging is all that is really needed here. If the DVD does not contain the bonus audio tracks you mention, I do not think anyone would express heartache - so long as the case did not claim it did (as is the case).
I have the older DVD release. On the DVD, around the spindle hole: GQ 1029D.1.A VB01. The outer case only lists chapter selection, trailers, and the original poster for extras.
I bought the box set when it originally first came out and every single case listed special features for each movie in addition to them being letterboxed.
To my amazement (and disappointment) they weren't. They were just bare bones full frame versions which weren't much better than what I already had on VHS. Not to mention that there were none of the listed special features on them. I just took it back.
yeah, these guys haven't been forthcoming with a solution, so it looks like that's going to be the only option i have. it's a shame, too. i love the rudy ray moore films, but there's no way i'm going to buy any more products from this company, and i'll have to dissuade any customers at my store from ordering their products, too. :bluesad:
