Title: Best STV/STDVD action films?
Post by: Jim H on November 24, 2008, 04:37:34 PM
A while ago I was musing on the state of straight-video/DVD action flicks.  Mostly about how terrible they usually are.  I've rented a number of them, and a lot of them are amazingly bad.  I've only seen one that I would put in the "Great" category.  Drive, starring Marc Dacascos.  It's really good, for those unaware of it.  Some of the best martial arts sequences I've seen in ANY American film.

I also enjoyed Urban Justice, one of Steven Seagal's newer STDVD releases.

Are there any other enjoyable straight-to-DVD/video action films?  I think films with very minor theatrical releases can also apply.  Like Mean Guns and other Pyun flicks.

Look up Charles Band, he has the market cornered.

Shriek if you know what I did last Friday the 13th, despite it's immaturity, is one of my favorite comedies  .

I've always been a follower of Full Moon.  When the original Puppet Master films came out it was a big deal amongst me and my friends.  But yeah, I'm not aware of any action films by Charles Band (aside from some scifi films with action scenes).  Are there any?

Just ran across this title--The Girls from H.A.R.M.! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0285141/)  It seems to be billed as action-adventure, but it's from the guy who did THE ADVENTURES OF EL FRENETICO, so I suspect there's a lot of silly intentional comedy.

Looks pretty silly.  Might be worth a watch.

I like when the guy is knocked out by the petite Asian girl pushing an empty box onto his head.   :bouncegiggle:
