I'm trying to figure the name of a movie and I hope someone knows what it is. Please bear with the painfully vague descriptions as I saw it a long time ago. I'm guessing it's from the 70's or maybe the early '70's.
It's a movie set in the Desert, maybe the Arabian Desert or possibly some imaginary desert-place. There's a fighting tournament where the winner gets to battle some sort of monster. The hero of the movie is disqualified for... something (he's not dressed right or disrespectful?) and goes on to fight the monster anyway. I believe the tournament winner is killed by the monster.
Anyway along the way the hero comes across a guy who standing in a barrel of oil because he took a vow of celibacy and is told to look for a rose in the desert.
That's all I can remember. I know it's not much to work with, but hopefully it rings a bell for someone. It's driving me nut.
I'm fairy certain that is The Warrior and the Sorceress (1984).

This film is Circle of Iron (1978) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078975/). I like it.
yep Go Hawks is right. It's Circle of Iron (a.k.a. the Magic Flute) written by Bruce Lee!

SOB! I forgot all about that other David Carradine-desert setting-quasi fantasy film. I saw this film once on cable eons ago and have always assumed it was that other film. So much for what I knew...
No worries Shad. "Circle of Iron" is a crazy movie. I guess this was Carradine's cinematic apology for taking the lead role in "Kung-Fu," which was originally meant for Bruce Lee.
off to search for both movies!!! please, netflix, have them!!
WHOOHOO! :hot:
NETFLIX HAS BOTH!
