Great review, I had the same reaction upon seeing it.

To me the movie was just a mess of CGI. There was roughly ten to fifteen minutes in the movie that had no CGI and ironically it was the best part of the movie - the scene with the mathmatician (John Cleese), and the scene with the alien (James Hong). If this movie had a little more of these scenes it would have been worth watching.
