Just like last year... I'll take all nominations for the best movies of 2008, then put them all into a poll we can vote on at the end of the year.
"Bad" movies that you enjoyed tremendously should go here, too!
I've put a similar poll for WORST movies of 2008 on the "bad movies" board: http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,122512.0.html
My nomination is THE DARK KNIGHT (which I imagine will be nominated on the worst movies thread as well).
Lars and the Real Girl.
Hellboy 2 The Golden Army.
The Incredible Hulk.
I nominate The Fall, Slumdog Millionaire, Shotgun Stories (If you can find it playing anywhere), Milk, Happy-Go-Lucky, The Dark Knight, and The Fountain (which did not come out this year, but I will nominate it every year til it gets the respect it deserves! Urgh!)
And I had to put it in a separate paragraph for emphasis, but Rachel Getting Married is a Jonathan Demme masterpiece! Wonderful from start to finish! Check it out!!!
Wall-E is easily the best movie of 2008, so far as I'm concerned.
The Incredible Hulk
Surprised nobody's mentioned it yet, but Iron Man.

I'll second that vote. If this were the summer, I'd probably say The Dark Knight but after watching it the second time and realizing how it dragged on, I'd put it under Hellboy 2 at #3.
* THE DARK KNIGHT
* BOLT (in 3-D)
Of course, I haven't seen what are probably the REAL best movies of 2008 (such as THE BOY IN STRIPED PAJAMAS and SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE), but they are on my list of "need to see" movies.
I didn't see any movies this year.

Out of the ones I've seen, I very much agree.

Agreed. It damn well better be a winner at the oscars... Best movie I've seen in a long time..
I got close to tears in certain scenes in WALL E.
But I still prefer Lars and the Real Girl
Rambo
In Bruges
Best written film in decades. Love it. Bought the script.
peter johnson/denny crane
The Orphanage.
Good pick, Doggett!! THE ORPHANAGE was really good.
But let's not forget AN AMERICAN CAROL :teddyr:
(Indy ducks as a barrage of rotten tomatoes, eggs, and week-old cabbage comes flying his way!)

Joke nomination, or real nomination? I never can tell with Indy!
Just kidding . . . I did like AN AMERICAN CAROL, but it wasn't that great. Just better than most of the spoofs that have come out of Hollywood lately.
BTW, I watched THE DARK KNIGHT again this evening, and I still love this movie. Even Maggie Gyllenhall's features were . . . less unattractive, shall we say - than on the big screen.
Encounters at the End of the World
Dark Knight and Wall-E are close behind.
For grown ups: There Will be Blood.
For kids: Wall-E
For B-movie laffs: Prince Caspian (Susan in a corset keeps you watching. Its pathetic attempt to be more than a rich man's sci-fi original/poor man's LOTR keeps you laughing.)
Just like with the worst movies of 2008 thread (http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,122512.0.html), I thought I'd give everyone one more day to add nominees to the list before "official" voting begins.
Here are the nominees so far:
THE DARK KNIGHT (Rev. Powell)
LARS AND THE REAL GIRL (doggett)
HELLBOY 2 (doggett)
THE INCREDIBLE HULK (doggett)
THE FALL (Rat-Bat-Spider)
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (Rat-Bat-Spider)
SHOTGUN STORIES (Rat-Bat-Spider)
MILK (Rat-Bat-Spider)
HAPPY GO LUCKY (Rat-Bat-Spider)
RACHEL GETTING MARRIED (Rat-Bat-Spider)
WALL-E (Akiraturbo)
IRON MAN (Anubis von Mojo)
BOLT (The Burgomaster)
RAMBO (Circus_Circus)
IN BRUGES (peter johnson)
THE ORPHANAGE (doggett)
ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD (Pilgermann)
THERE WILL BE BLOOD (HarlotBug3) (technically a 2007 movie, but it was only in limited release in 2007)
PRINCE CASPIAN (HarlotBug3)
"Wall-E," too. For a couple of reasons.
(1st) Each year I compile a list of the "best" and "worst" films of the year, as chosen by the critics. There are almost fifty films on the "best" list this year. "Wall-E" is the only one I've seen of the fifty.
(2) While there are a number of films that have made multiple critics' lists of the "best," most notablely "Milk," "Wall-E" is the only one that, so far, has made every critic's "best" list. So, "Wall-E" is my choice, too.

If you haven't already, go cast your vote in this thread: http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,122641.0.html. WALL-E is currently tied for the top position with IRON MAN, so you can break the deadlock.
